I finally got off my posterior and completed the Warlord Saker and Sniper for the ECW project. I've included some extra pictures of the Pike and Shotte unit (Warlord plastic).

Would I buy more? I don't know. They take way longer to put together than metal figures including cleaning and priming. I'm waffling between yes and no on the cavalry just to say I've got some in the ECW project. I would like to do a couple of units of clubmen. Hopefully they won't look too much like those old "militia" guys in WHFB.

Anyway…y'all make the call. Now it's time to start building field works.

Despite the assembling problems you say you had your efforts are well rewarded. Excellent figures.

Turned out nice

I like that sniper figure, and intend on getting one. The only thing that bothers me,how is he sighting down the barrel with that sword hilt in the way? I would rather have seen a forked branch or something-I may have to do a little conversion work on mine when I get it.

I'm with you on the plastics. I don't suppose I'd have much objection to buying more of the Perry plastics for my Napoleonic projects, since they require only a little assembly, but the more involved kits just don't seem worth the trouble.

That said, the plastics give almost limitless opportunity for conversion and originality, so there's an upside, too. Your units look terrific. For what rules are they based, please?

I agree with you on the conversion possiblities. I'm too old to fiddle with figures. I just want to paint them and get them on the game table now-a-days. :)

I based the collection for Victory without Quarter but play them with a really cool Might of Arms variant I tweaked from Bob Bryant's set of rules. I like the larger basing since my standard gaming table is 12x6, expandable to 24x6.

Thanks for the compliments!

I'm working on the Warlord Plastic cavalry (ECW) as well. Seems that Warlord takes the direction of lots of assembly. Can't complain about the horses. They are two easy pieces to put together. Though a number of them show a seam along the neck that needed green stuff to fill. The riders take some work. You need to assemble the weapon arm, or standard lance etc. And the helmets – while really cool in concept – take some care. It's easy to break the face bars. Though in fairness I'm confident that once on the figure, the nasal bars will be very safe.
But I don't think that all Plastics fall into the massive assembly school. Sounds like the Perry's can be cracked off and painted. Looks like the new HAT 28mm stuff is good to paint on the sprue. The Valiant 20mm plastics have a good number of figures that can painted right on the sprue. So..don't write off plastics just because they're plastics.

A tip for the horses is to slice off the location pegs. you can then use liquid poly and slide the two halves around a little as the solvent dries off – the plastic tends to create its own filler from the melted edges.
I just stuck my box of horses together tonight and switched to sniping off the pips after the first one because of the gap in the neck area.

I must say I like the warlord plastic ECW figures – there's a good mix of 'snip off and paint' and multi part figures. I painted all the single piece ones first and then built up the rest of the box as I did so.
