Wondering who sloganizes their Russian tanks? I have a variety of stock decals for my 1/48 Russian tanks that say For Stalin! or For the Fatherland. There were some elaborate slogans from factory workers who donated tanks from their pay. I've seen text from factory workers on Russian planes as well. I saw one on a tank turret slogan that translated into "Adolph is an A**hole." So the question is What Slogan Would You Paint On a Russian Tank? |

Spotted on one "donated" tank from a Stalingrad factory: "The cost of this tank came out of my paycheck" Spotted on the one next to it from a Siberian factory: "They get paychecks?" |

The same as the one which adorns my office wall. Crush the Fascist Occupiers. |

How about for the early war: "Forward in All Directions!" or "Drive the Fascists to the Urals" and who can forget: "Capitalists made this Tank, but We Will Make it Red!" (for lend Lease). |
Jovian1 | 27 Nov 2009 12:57 p.m. PST |
How about "will fight for food" or "my other tank is a Sherman" |

How about one that was seen on both fronts: "Kraut Killer" or Patton's quote: "I'm gonna go to Berlin and personally hang that paper hangin' S.. o b
." Beats the German equivalents: "What would the Leader Think?" (on Manstein's wall) or "The Leader orders and we obey." (on many formerly Third Reich walls) |

My personal favourite translates as
"Marshal Choybalsan – Revolutionary Mongolia!" Or there's "Boevaya Podruga!" = Friend in Battle Those were on, obviously, specific tanks. More generic ones would be
Na Zapad! Na Berlin! My favourite of these is the brutally simple and direct "Smert Fashistam!" = Death to Fascists |

Whatever the battalion comissar would let me paint on, before shooting me to encourage the others. It's safest to ask him first what's on the "approved anti-fascist slogan" list, after buying him a bottle of vodka. I think I can get away with "The NKVD are a swell bunch of guys." |

Smert Fashistkoi okkypantam = Death to the Facist occupiers my russian a lil rusty but I did manage to actually put this on the turret of a 15mm by hand. |

I think I've read somewhere that only tank battalions that received the "Guards" designation painted slogans on their hulls. But then again there were quite a number of battalions given the "Guards" designation by late war, so maybe it doesn't matter. Myself, I prefer the simple yet powerful "For the Motherland!" |

Somewhere I have an old IPMS newsletter with a humorous article on "joke" Russian tank slogans. It showed tank sideview with Russian language slogans on the turret and then there were "joke" translations. I'll have to look for it. The only one I remember went "Eva Braun, Moo! Moo!" |

I've got a cracking little book, Airfix magazine guide 22, Russian tanks or world war 2, by John Milson, and none other than Steve Zaloga. There is a section on Tank slogans, with such gems as; 'To the front for the rout of Fascism!' 'We defend the conquests of October!' 'Onward to Riga!' 'Suvarov' 'Shchortz' (Civil war general) and my personal fave 'Smash the fascist vipers!' Looking through it, it's actually a smart little book. John |
