Ok, another odd question, but I know I've seen some of you mention this stuff in conversations here, so perhaps you can help.

Seriously considering doing a Slovak/Czechoslovak line in 15mm as part of the Early War Project I'm planning at Black Army. But I need some references – as before, references that would be useful to sculptors (ie: photos of equipment/uniforms in use, rather than pieces in display cases). Other useful stuff would be helpful, too.

If anybody could help, I'd be grateful.

As a start, if you have access to it, the Squadron/Signal publications "The Eastern Front: Armor Camouflage and Markings, 1941 to 1945" by Stephen J. Zaloga & James Grandsen has a whole 2 1/2 pages on Slovakia. As name would imply primarily armor related but some shots of crew which might be helpful. Also some of the pictures in the color drawings are of Slovakian armor.

Does anyone make useful figures for the Slovaks in 15mm?

Italians will work as a simple, mostly paint, conversion:

…but I think Aurelian would have the first proper range.

QRF Japanese infantry in helmets are by far the best for Slovaks. No need to alter the helmet. Just paint to the different uniform.

I did a 15mm master of the Slovak armoured car….also used by the Germans and Rumanians…..for QRF a year or so ago, but its apparently not in production yet. Other Slovak equipment is available from QRF.

Per Mal advice I have used some QRF Japanese and they look the part. I also thought about using some 15mm Italians maybe from Peter Pig or Battlefront. In 6mm I have gotten away by repainting some Adler Soviet figures. At some point I will put pictures of them on my blog. I also used 6mm Adler Soviets for Japanese.

Blog update today as well some 6mm Adler French and Germans:

I agree with Mal. The Japanese helmets are very similar to the ones use by the Slovaks. Robert

I would still like to have a well-sculpted line dedicated to the Slovaks with all the right equipment in 15mm.

Here is the book I own, and have been very pleased with it:

Germany's First Ally: Armed Forces of the Slovak State 1939-1945 (Schiffer Military History) by Charles K. Kliment.

Thanks for the input, all. We will definitely be doing Slovaks. Our first release will likely be something a little simpler (ie: less heavy equipment and tanks), but they are definitely going to be coming from us sooner than later.
