WOW, did you see the shipping those people want? Think at those prices I'd just get a regular 15mm vehicle kit. I'm guessing you're going to repaint those anyway. |
Ivan DBA | 22 Nov 2009 11:44 p.m. PST |
I have a several, and they are great for 15mm sci fi. If you look, you might still find them for sale in stores, which would save high shipping price. Check 'em out on Miniature Review: link |

Most Matchbox vehicles are good with 15mm figures as they tend in that range to be mostly 1:75th scale – Except for trucks or military vehicles – Hence the nold name of the range and the number of vehicles originally in it the 75 range. I also need to ask for curiosity sake – Are Matchbox cars no longer common in toy stores across the States? |
Wellspring | 23 Nov 2009 3:38 a.m. PST |
They go for $0.99 USD in my local Toys R Us. And no shipping. ;) |

Ivan, Thanks so much for that link! link My next question was how they would look if repainted, but the link answered that for me perfectly. Awesome. Dan |

Matchbox cars seem to take to paint well, I use Krylon camo that binds to plastic and metal, sample picture below with some PP US Marnies: picture |

I usually get them at Walmart or Target at the $0.99 USD rate, but it can be hard to find multiples. |
Dragon Gunner | 23 Nov 2009 5:33 a.m. PST |
Its hit or miss depending on what they have in stock. All to often I find the vehicle I want and it is sold as part of a larger set. |

--Cover Walrus- Matchbox cars are still common in US stores, have no fear! Good places too look are grocery stores, WalMart, Target, and of course, Toys R Us. The catch of course is whether you can find this particular vehicle. I remember first seeing it back in maybe 2005 or so, and picked up the blue version that appears on Miniature Review. I have a vague notion that I saw the black or silver version at Target a while back, but I may be wrong. I've definitely seen them in a store somewhere in the last year. Matchbox cars are great for 15mm, and lately there have been a lot of sci-fi-looking vehicles produced, which are either normal cars with very distorted proportions, or are pure fantasy. I cruise by the toy aisle at the grocery store or Target regularly, and I've amassed a whole motor pool of sci fi vehicles, usually for only $1 USD each. |

You could probably order multiples direct from Matchbox for much less postage. |

Heck yea they work perfect for 15mm. I even did a little conversion of one using one of the newer releases from Ground Zero Games. link |

The still sell vehicles although I usually see it in a 5 pack. I haven't seen any singles in a while. |

This group isn't too bad, but you wind up paying $3 USD a vehicle auction Wyatt |

I currently use those as APC's for my GZG universe Dutch mercenaries (15mm Battlefront WWII German paratroopers with alternate camo pattern and some modified) and they look great next to them. |
Wellspring | 23 Nov 2009 8:40 p.m. PST |
The police vehicle / APC is very much in scale. The other minis are hit or miss. Appropriately painted, some are slam dunks, some can be made to work, and some are too big. They also make a mini-helicopter that is excellent as a one-man scout. One area that they're lacking in is a 15mm AV/6 and AV/9 VTOL. Matchbox doesn't have the GZG license, so we'll have to keep pestering Jon. ;) |

The the high price, especially for shipping, on those is for a very good reason: They're being sold as *collectables*, which means they are in mint condition, and the shipping involves packaging and handling which ostensibly maintains that state. You can get them very cheap, especially this time of year ('stocking stuffers'). |

The SWAT ones looks like it can slide off or back, thinking that one could rip it off add a deck and mount some larger weapon system. GZG: V15-73A V15-26A V15-26B |

I found some singles at my local Target today. I'm going to give Toys R Us a try tomorrow as you can't beat the price. |

I wonder if anyone at matchbox is realizing the popularity of those, do you think they have any way to track which models sell faster and which not? Or they just chunk they out since "They're just toy cars and kids will always like toy cars"? |
Lion in the Stars | 14 Jan 2012 4:49 a.m. PST |
Well, if each individual model has it's own SKU, then someone will be *able* to see which models are more popular. They'd be foolish not to track that, since that would be good next-model-development information. But if the models are only sold in sets, then there's no easy way to track popularity. |
