Ok guys

A number of the guys are opting for WSS next year for the club project and I am tossing up between French, Spainish or Bavarians.

Greg wants to go down the 1/20 figure scale so a fair outlay for metal.

What I am after is for figure comparisons between FR and Reiver castings.

And any Painted WSS reiver figs out there?

would like to see these guys

Matt,
I had to make the same decision myself. I went with FR.
You can see some of Reiver's Nine Years War here.

It was suggested to me that FR British in gaiters was suitable.

Matt,
If you get in touch with Reiver I'm sure they'll send you some samples so you can make your own mind up. They've done it before for customers.

Futher to Matt's Spanish Succession announcement, I have ordered the latest book on Rammillies which, with any luck, will have good references for orbats. There is one for the French on-line but none for the allied army which I can see.

If people want to get in on this, I am going for Marlborough's – Dutch foot and a lot of Danish and Dutch horse. If there, I'll also do the Buffs and the Queens Own.

I am happy to get a spreadsheet going – perhaps this could go toward a grand demo game somewhere later next year?

Baverains, apart from Grenadiers look pretty much like imperialists so use austrainas,, foundry do some very cionvinvingly ferocious looking grnadiers.. Matt I have the editions Brokaw phamphlets on many of the armies and cds as well..at one stage the baverians officers nco and musicans all wore reversed coat colours..

tomorrow at 10 but feel free to drop up over the weekend . I have a bit of stuff on the period.
German Imperialists, Austrians would work fine..the gaiter look for Bavarians isn't compulsory comes off the Blenheim tapestry? I think there are Brits in gaiters as well on the tapestry but people don't go into a lather about them..Now you need to get somebody to make the flags..IIncidentallyfrom looking at the scans of the Reiver I would definitelygo for Front Rank

Right willow, all the materialk is assembled.. I am the go to guy..some of it is fragile..as for Baverians , like Imperialist the infantry tied their neck cloth at the back , I am not sure Front Rank, or most people get that right..

Cardinal Hawkwood25 Nov 2009 8:13 p.m. PST

As suspected all Front Rank infantry have the neck cloth tied at the front..I'm out over this matter..

Cardinal Hawkwood25 Nov 2009 8:22 p.m. PST

well well take it all back brits have neck cloth tied at back…and gaiters.. good on two points
and the French as well..so only the Grenadiers with their neck cloths the wrong way….Front Rank I take it all back..

Brian Phillips paints loads of these ( bpfp.co.uk/) he would be a good person to ask about the best figures to use.

Ye Gods! Asked to choose between chalk and cheese! No comparing the Quality of Front Rank to the sheer badness of Reiver… And I don't even like Front Rank!!!!

Unlucky General09 Dec 2009 1:18 p.m. PST

My existing army (1/50 troop scale) is all Foundry and Dixon but I'll be throwing in Old Glory and Reiver to mix it up as much as I can when boosting the numbers to 1/20. I wish I liked them better but I just can't come at the Front Rank stuff – short, over-fed with cherubic faces and rigidly posed. It's a shame because they have lovely detail.
