I got a set of the Old Glory Pirate Village buildings a while back from a fellow TMP'er and I am at the point where I want to start painting them. But I am wondering about what kind of primer to use on them? Since they are of a "foam" I am leery of using my standard Wally World Krylon Grey Primer…
So what kind of primer (preferably spray on), would be the best for these buildings and not turn them into a lump of paint eaten up foamy goo???

Thanks In Advance…

When i primed foam I used a spray paint for those foam winged remote control airplanes.

Gesso by itself, or Gesso followed by a spray primer.

Krylon H2O won't melt foam.

Michaels has a special spray paint for foam. It is a bit pricy (at least in Canada), but highly justified as I have used several cans to primer my foam core buildings, as well as spray on the styrofoam insulation with no ill effects. No need for Gesso, which I have never had good luck with for some reason. Check it out.

It looks like foam but not. Regular spray primer works. If not sure, try spraying a bit under the building and see if it will melt. Gesso will not work for highly detailed buildings and will form bubbles everywhere.

I have used regular primer on their foam stuff. Hardened foam, correct?

Thanks,

John

psst folks, it is not really for a Pirate Village, these are test sprays for the foam he has carved the hull of his Aircraft Carrier out of…

Wally World $.98 USD primer has always worked fine for me.
