Okay, first off, this is NOT an English bashing post. On my lunch break today, I stopped by Waldenbooks and thumbed through a little volume entitled Loose Cannons, by Graeme Donaldson (I think that was his name, never heard of the author). Anyway, it was a book about military blunders, and one chapter seemed to be saying that the British killed Rasputin because the war was going to poorly in the east, and they hoped that the Czar might do better if the Mad Monk was removed, and more competent people were advising Nicholas. I did not get to read the whole chapter, but it sounded like a shaky premise, and I had never heard it before. So, I thought I'd bring the issue to that pinnacle of all wisdom and knowledge that we know of as TMP. |

And, of course, if I had any ntelligence, I'd have spelled it "Intelligence". |

Who DIDN'T kill Rasputin? What was it -- he got stabbed, shot, poisoned, thrown in freezing river, castrated, and more? |

The BBC screened a documentary a few years back that he was finished off by a British agent called Oswald Rayner. link |

On the Discovery channels "Investigation Discovery" they had a show about it. I can't say when it originally aired but they did mention the British agent theory, I didn't see the end though. |

I always get skeptical when I hear someone say they are 99.9% certain. My experience has been the 0.1% bears out more often than not. Given the slight information in the article, it would seem reasonable that Rayner listened to the tale from the Prince as to how hard it was to kill Rasputin, examined the body, and decided to put a bullet in Rasputin's head just to be sure dead was dead. |

Rasputin's cause of death as determined by postmortem was hypothermia and NOT all the cyanide, weighs to the head, revolver shots, stabbing with letter openers, choking, rolling in carpet and stuffing under ice as was done by Yusupoff, Purishkevitch and Co. So if British Intelligence has control of ice flows on Neva river- then by all means. Thought that Rasputin was affecting Russian army performance in WWI is worthy of British media, indeed. NOW it is a Brit bashing thread! |

Bond would have made a quicker job if it. |
