It has to be 3 or more, as almost everybody does alteat two scales on every period they game.

I'm now starting up AWI on the 3rd scale, 40mm, I'm allready doing it in 6mm and 28mm

For the ACW I'm doing it in 28, 15 and 6mm

In napoleoinc I got a total of 4 scales, 40, 28, 15 and 6mm

three periods all the same scale

doublesix6614 Nov 2009 1:29 p.m. PST

Sci fi 28mm, 15mm, 6mm (+ Full thrust so whatever spaceships are)

Fantasy I have 28mm, 15mm & 10mm Warmaster

Not always the same armies or game systems.

jizbrand14 Nov 2009 1:30 p.m. PST

Clever!

For me:

WWII: 1/600, 6mm, 10mm, 15mm

Ancients: I have EIR in 6mm, 15mm, and 28mm

SF: 6mm, 15mm, 28mm (and I'd love to do 3mm too, but need the right figures)

Aircraft (WWI thru the present): 1/600, 1/144, and 1/72

highlandcatfrog14 Nov 2009 1:37 p.m. PST

Ancients in 6 mm, 15 mm, and 25 mm (I've got 7 different armies in each of these 3 scales).

WW II air in 1/600, 1/432, and 1/285.

Mick in Switzerland14 Nov 2009 1:45 p.m. PST

Not sure if it counts but I have WW2 Churchill tanks in 54mm = 1/35, 28mm and 10mm. I game ww2 with 28mm and 10mm but the 54mm is a display piece.

I try to concentrate on 28mm to reuse scenery and maximise the mix and match possibilities in armies.

Beowulf Fezian14 Nov 2009 1:55 p.m. PST

I prefer to stick to the same scale (28mm)as much as possible. That way I can reuse my scenery.

jeffrsonk14 Nov 2009 1:59 p.m. PST

I stick to 28mm for historical stuff as well. I barely have time to paint that scale, let alone start a second or third.

Three….

WWII – 1/2400, 1/600, 6mm, 15mm and 28mm

Modern – 1/2400, 1/600, 6mm, 15mm and 28mm

ACW – 1/600, 10mm, 15mm and 28mm

nazrat14 Nov 2009 2:23 p.m. PST

None! Two is the most for me.

rmaker14 Nov 2009 2:25 p.m. PST

Napoleonics – old 25mm, 15mm, N-gauge/10mm, 1:1200

Russo-Japanese War – 28mm (skirmish) 15mm (battles), 1:2400

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP14 Nov 2009 2:54 p.m. PST

None – one is the most for me. I don't do skirmish gaming and see little point in duplicating armies.

I tell a lie – just remembered I have Renaissance in both 2mm and 6mm.

Like Extra Crispy I do WWII in 15 & 6mm. Everything else one scale.

Fantasy 28mm/15mm/10mm
Ancients 28mm/20mm/15mm/10mm

Lentulus14 Nov 2009 4:47 p.m. PST

none so far.

Heck, I have enough trouble painting up one period in one scale.

peru52200014 Nov 2009 4:50 p.m. PST

everything is done in one scale. Different scales for different things but never two scales in the same era

55th Division14 Nov 2009 5:23 p.m. PST

WW1 in 15mm, 6mm, 1/900th and soon in 1/8000th
i like to wargame big battles lol

Ditto Tango 2 114 Nov 2009 5:24 p.m. PST

None. I make models for WWII in 1:72, some ACW Naval in 1:600, and a small bit of Age of sail in 1:1200. I've never understood people's confusion with what scale to choose.

redmist112214 Nov 2009 6:33 p.m. PST

Started in 15mm (ACW, NAP's, ECW, Medieval, Limey's & Slimeys and Ancients)

Then got hooked in 1/72 scale for my Blue Max game,

and in the last few years 25mm (ECW, WSS, F&IW, Old West, Ancients and Pirates)

Brent2751114 Nov 2009 9:53 p.m. PST

WW2 and Napoleonics.

zippyfusenet14 Nov 2009 10:02 p.m. PST

I recently had WWII air in five scales, but have dumped one of those and am dumping another. 1/700 is gone, 1/100 is going, I'm keeping my models in 1/300, 1/144 and 1/120 and adding more. The 1/120 models are so close to 1/144 in size that there's little difference in function between them, but the 1/120 are mostly diecast while the 1/144 are mostly plastic. There's more variety of the 1/144 models but the 1/120 are more robust, so I keep those as a travel set. It's not obsessive if I have a reason for everything I do, right fellas? Fellas? Right?

Ivan DBA14 Nov 2009 11:34 p.m. PST

The only one for me is Sci Fi. I think there is a very natural division for Sci-Fi or modern games, that does lend itself to different scales: 28mm for squad-level skirmishes, 15mm for platoon-level skirmishes, 6mm for company to battallion-sized engagements.

Gunbird15 Nov 2009 2:48 a.m. PST

WW2 and Moderns in 1/3000, 1/600 and 20mm. Though divided into sea, air and land really.

Porthos15 Nov 2009 3:48 a.m. PST

"almost everybody does alteat two scales on every period they game.

They do?"

Of course they do, John (;-))).

For me:
- WW II (1:3.000 ships, 6mm, 15mm (FOW), 25/28mm. Does 1:600 planes for the 1:3.000 ships also count ?)
- Middle Ages (10mm Mongols, 15mm WOTR, 25mm various)

And of course lots of two scales, but that wasn't the question…

Mainly28s15 Nov 2009 4:37 a.m. PST

I must be one of the oddities then, 'cos I'm definitely not one of the

almost everybody does alteat two scales on every period they game
crowd mentioned. I exclusively use one scale across the board in all periods- 28mm, unless you specifically want to count 25mm as a separate scale.

As to periods covered? I have a few Ancients (75BC-25AD), a large number of Early Medievals (AD1050-AD1200) and an equally large number of 20th Century (AD1900-AD1950-ish).

Martin Rapier15 Nov 2009 9:37 a.m. PST

Three or more?

WW2 land – 6mm, 15mm, 20mm, 54mm (OK, I have the figs for the latter but haven't used them in three decades)

WW1 land – 6mm, 15mm, 20mm

WW2 air – 6mm, 1/144th, 1/100th, 1/72nd

WW1 air – 6mm, 1/44th, 1/100th

Colonial – 6mm, 15mm, 28mm

Otherwise I'm pretty much a one scale guy.

wrgmr115 Nov 2009 10:25 a.m. PST

Napoleonics – 6 MM Heroics and Ross, 15 MM and 28 MM.

WW2 – in two scales 20 MM AND 28 MM.

All other periods in one scale.

Daffy Doug15 Nov 2009 3:22 p.m. PST

This is my gaming group, not me personally…

Napoleonic land – 6mm, 15mm, 28mm and some 54mm (last is a chess set I'm slowly working on)
ACW land – 15mm, 28mm, Naval – 15mm, 1/1200
WW2 land – 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 28mm, Air – 1/300, naval – 1/700 & 1/3000

Inquisitor Thaken17 Nov 2009 7:36 a.m. PST

None. All is 15mm for me. I never understood why anybody would get into multiple scales. Seems like throwing money away.

Diogenes17 Nov 2009 7:56 p.m. PST

Not only do I only game in 1 figure scale, I only game 2 periods.

I must be the odd man out…

Inquisitor Thaken17 Nov 2009 9:11 p.m. PST

Inquisitor Thaken "None. All is 15mm for me. I never understood why anybody would get into multiple scales. Seems like throwing money away."

Well, in fairness, and to contradict my own post, I do play Full Thrust in a non- 15mm scale.
