Recently, I decided to reflag my ACW armies that I had painted in the late 1980s, since I thought that newer flags would help improve their appearance, and would be better than anything I could print out. So, I bought flags from GMB Designs and Flags for the Lads. The GMB Designs flags are beautiful, but are more towards true 15mm, so a bit small. The FftL flags were also nice, but way oversized, maybe even closer to 20mm than 15mm.

While researching some other flag makers, I ran across a mention of The Old Gunny's Flags here on TMP, and read Scott Mingus' review at: link .
Well, a thumbs-up from Scott is always good, so I contacted Tim Harrop (The Old Gunny), got a catalog from him and made an order. When I first got them, I was a bit unsure. In 15mm, the flags were not quite as clear as the English ones, but still quite nice. When I put them on the figures though, something clicked.

The colors on Tim's flags are very rich and deep, and make a nice contrast to the figures. He is willing to work with you on sizes, so your flags can match whichever figures you have that are larger or smaller than the norm. What appeared to be slightly blurry on the flag sheet vanished when they were on the flagstaffs. There is enough room on the flag sheets for notes about his sources, which he provides with every flag. He's even willing to do custom orders and will work with you on sources, if you have something he doesn't. Truth in advertising here: He also corrected me when I was wrong about flags for my Texas brigade. The sad part is, we were reading the same book; he caught something that I had missed.

Overall, I am very pleased with my flags from him, and when it comes time to reflag the rest of my Confederates, I will certainly use his products again. His flags are already covering over 90% of my Union troops.

Tim's flags rock. I've known him for years and he is very serious about his product.

I'm a fan! Just put another order in for a brigade of Union Zouaves and a few others…Great work Tim.
