It's probably too late already this season to snatch these bargains up...

Me and the wife are travelling to London for our honeymoon and I was wondering what good mini and game shops were worth visiting in and around London.

If it helps, I game WWII 15 and 28mm, F&I 28mm, getting into ancients 15 and 28mm.

We have a stop at the Imperial War museum and Bovington planned (she supports my hobby because it keeps me out of trouble).

Ooops, sorry. I didn't see the other topic about this. It has lots of good info on museums, but I was looking specifically for shops.

Didin't mean to post a redundant topic.

Thanks for any help in advance.

There was a comment on shops also a few weeks ago also: - turned into a bit of a bash of one particular shop. Try a search over last month or so on 'London'.

I've been to London twice in 2000-2001 and never was able to find a good shop for gaming other than modeling shops.

My wife and I went to London on our honeymoon. I highly recommend visiting Windsor Castle. You can get threr easily by train. Also Leeds Castle – leeds-castle.com

The National Army Museum in Chelsea and the Imperial War Museum both have free admission, or at least they did in November 2003 when I was last there.

You might check out Orc's Nest. I was over there in the summer of 2000 and it was a pretty cool place - small, but packed with figs (mostly Fantasy and Sci-Fi, but I believe it did have some BTD WWII 28mm). If I recall it's within walking distance of Copley Square. The shop has been in business since the early 1980s at least, so it may still be there...

While you are there, you should at least pick up an official "Orcs' Nest" coffee mug. I did, and it's now my favorite.

Oh wow! I remember the Orc's Nest! That place that was always in the old White Dwarfs. I have to check that out and get a mug. Thanks JLA105!

Nearest Underground is probably Tottenham Court Road. If you walk down charing Cross road for the underground station you will pass Foyle's Bookshop. Check out their military History section on the 2nd floor itsthe best in the UK.

Orc's nest carry mostly fantasy but also copplestone castings Back of Beyond, Future Wars and Darkest Africa and renegade ECW, ACW WW1 etc. A lot of Historical rules upstairs..

Radar,

It would help if we knew when you are coming to London - there might well be re-enactments or wargame shows at the time.

Best one I've found is Leisure Games. It's in Finchley, but easily accessible by tube.

You`re going on your honeymoon, and you want a list of games shops?

Jeeeeezz

Radar45423 Feb 2004 9:08 p.m. PST

Oh right! I'll be there from June 7th thru the 13 or so if that helps. Although I can get the wife to come a long to a few shops, a reenactment or a show might be pushing it a little.

Kawasaki: LOL! True true...

Thanks for everyones help!

whooosh...Listen...is that the sound of tumbleweed rolling through the town...

London used to have a number of good central shops [King's Cross, somewhere near Hyde Park and Spirit Games in Croydon...all sadly gone]. It does make you wonder about the role of shops nowadays though...given the much higher levels of service via phone and, of course, the Net maybe their day has really gone

Dear Radar,
I`m a little worried about you. Let me get this straight, you are are thinking about little metal men on your HONEYMOON? What kind of a pervert are you? No I`m just kidding, actually you could do a lot worse than check out Essex Miniatures down in Canvey Island, they have a factory shop which does eveything on the premises, I have bought loads from them over many years, their prices are really reasonable and some of their figures are little gems, both in 15mm and 28mm . Check out their website. Have a lovely honeymoon, make this your one essential stop but don`t forget the new Missus
