Anyone know of this board game, or know where I can obtain a copy of the rules?

Irish Marine09 Nov 2009 7:45 p.m. PST

Great game played it a lot as a kid and young man back in the 80's.

I liked this game. You may be able to download a copy of the rules on Boardgame geek.

I think it was a version of Axis and Allies, but I may be confusing it with something else.

ajbartman09 Nov 2009 8:15 p.m. PST

Similar to Axis and Allies. Great game, played a lot in college. US against the world.

Decent game. I've had it for years, and even played it a couple times over the past year. I think it's one of the better games in Milton Bradley's "Gamemaster" series, as it's not likely that one player will get knocked out and have to wait hours for the game to resolve, as can happen in Axis & Allies or Shogun.

I still have my copy. It was a lot of fun, but the American player gets reinforcements via card draw, so you can tell almost within 3 turns just by what cards the American draws how the game will go. Bad cards equals US loss. Good cards, and it's almost impossible to stop the US.

I haven't played in a long time. It's probably time to dust it off and play with my son.

Almost bought another copy at MilleniumCon this weekend:
I ended up buying a first edition copy of "Shogun"
{nee 'samurai swords'} from the same series, instead.

Interesting bit of trivia:
the first printing
(the one with Saddam on the cover)
regularly sells for +/- $200- …

Volstagg…200$ Really?!?!

I have my Originals first printing copy sitting in my closet right now…Opened in 1988, looked at, played twice…All parts and pieces there…

Hmm..maybe I should ebay this sucker….

A 1980s game that came out after RedDawn was popular. Classic invasion from all sides. part of the MB series on a lot of similar packaged game . Shogun/Samurai Blades was another. Plastic pieces. First game that I remeber from MB that used dice other than only six sided.

RudyNelson->
That is exactly right: This Game-> "Fortress America"

Murphy:

Yes, really.

All four of those Milton Bradley 'Gamesmaster' series Games:
-Shogun (later Samurai Swords)
-Fortress America
-Broadsides & Boarding Parties and of course
-Axis & Allies
were Wild successes, (from a design standpoint)
but only Axis & Allis remained 'in print'…

Consequently, the first three command huge resale value,
easily starting on eBay at $100-.
-The 'Saddam' cover Fortress America,
-the 'Shogun' cover Samurai Swords
-and -any- edition of Broadsides & Boarding Parties
regularly go for $150-$250-

Crazy, isn't it?

Great game along with SPI's Invasion America and Jagdpanther(?)'s Jacksonville: Beaches of Doom which is sort of a trilogy of "Let's invade America" games!

Fortress America and Red Dawn…just shows that 80's American cold war paranoia had at least two positive outcomes. We played a lot of Fortress America when I was in about 6th grade. It was cool because it used d12's and the pieces were sweet. The helicopters and hovertanks especially.

Don't forget Conquest of the Empire, that was the Roman entry in the series. It's since been redone by Eagle Games I think.

Shogun was the best, because it had random set-up, so better replay value.

Rudysnelson10 Nov 2009 10:14 a.m. PST

Yes i remember at the Origins in Townson (sp?)College in about 1983-84? that the vendor at the booth behind me was selling the original first editions (all that they were) copies of Six Ceasars (later Conquest of the Empire), Axis and Allies and Broadsides and Boarding parties. These were the stadard paper board games.

Monkey Hanger Fezian10 Nov 2009 12:49 p.m. PST

I got my copy off Ebay last year (Saddam cover) for £20……

Bargain for me it seems
