Rumor has it that warmachine is going to start selling army books. You'll have to pay to play and then pay to play your army, just like GW.

Their battle boxes are not any great deal just like GW, $50 USD for 3 or 4 toys. Their unit boxes are around $35, for six little army men.

I personally think that their Blood Bowl ripoff, "Grind" is even sillier, than Blood Bowl. The cover looks like some retarded rubbish for small children you'd find at Toys R US.

All of the stats for Warmachine Mk2 are currently available for free as a PDF on Privateer's Website. All of the models will be rereleased to come with stat cards for mk2. All the local stores will be given mk2 stat cards to include with old mk1 stat so anyone buying anything will have the stats for the new edition at no additional cost.

So much for having to "pay to play." Free PDF.

They are releasing consolidated "Forces of Warmachine" books that allow anyone who doesn't have the Mk1 books to get the art, stories and stats that were spread throughout the Mk1 releases.

After Hordes Mk2 is released, they're continuing on the same "releases for everyone" model they've always had.

Baconfat, if you think 35 for 6 models is expensive, don't take a close look at some of the boutique sellers who charge 12+ EUROS for a single miniature. Or GW characters that are 18 USD for a single miniature. Privateer is right in the middle of fantasy/sci-fi 28mm pricing.

Now, something bad about PP. I hate the mk2 stat cards. They're covered in pipes and other useless background designs to the point of being noisy and making sense of them quickly is going to take some learning. Fortunately, given that they've released PDFs of everything, I don't have to buy them.

As for Grind, it's totally different than Bloodbowl. I wouldn't even compare the two. Grind feels more like basketball or soccer/football than American football/rugby. And how silly some guy on the internet finds their box art… I'm sure there's other guys on the internet who think differently.

OK maybe I'm confused.

Do you need to buy the $45 USD Cyngar or Khandor faction books to play all the current Cyngar or Khandor models? If they're just nice to have I can't imagine them selling many.

I did not know Grind was giant robots playing basketball. That's far less silly. Can you play humans or just giant robots?

It might be fun to recreate the Gilligan's Island movie where the Harlem Globetrotters helped Gilligan defeat evil robots at basketball.

I rummaged around the PP website, some of the metal minis are quite nice. But Monsterpocalypse. I was kind of hoping we'd seen the end of "collectable" plastic prepainted clicky junk.

They sell for the other stuff. The stats for every model PP sells *come with the model*. That includes what passes for army structure in Warmachine. You only need the current core rulebook for your flavor (Warmachine or Hordes, as they have differing magic rules) and your models with their included (or later updated) cards. The only exception is for Mercenary force "Contracts" and a few other odd variants. The additional books did expand the actual rules as well, but each revision of the core book (Prime or Primal) includes all rules published up to that point.

Then don't buy it. The sculpts are good, the paintwork on the big guys is often amazing, and the game is quite fun. The collectibility has much less effect on play than just about any other CCG or CMG I've seen.

Then PP is pretty cool to not force you to buy extra books.

Perhaps the website doesn't do the Monsters justice.
