Interested in buying some troops for these. But before I put money into it Id like to know.. Did the seperate states identify themselves with any colours/symbols. Ie Wu,Wei, Shu = Blue, Red, Green ? What made the troops distinguishable from each other? |

Good question! IIRC from a single reading of the Cambridge History of China [?], colours (and elements) were associated with various dynasties, but some may have been applied retroactively. In other words, they may not have been used by the early dynasties or states themselves. The colour system may have been on firmer ground starting with the Han Dynasty, however, which preceded (or overlapped?) the Three Kingdoms. Unfortunately, I forgot which colours were said to have been used during the Three Kingdoms period. Judging from various Chinese historical films and series, the main distinction would have come from the units' banners or flags, each with the state's character written in a seal script. |

Pick up the WAB supplement Art of War that covers this period. It contains guidelines for colours. At work so can't look myself. |
