Was it the standard prussian blue coats?

Cold Steel07 Nov 2009 7:07 a.m. PST

Yes, the same color.

Ok, second question, how the hell do I paint the 2nd leib regiment of hussars, they got all black, uniforms, black, cufs, black saddle cloth and black trimings on the saddle,

Basicly all black, how the hell do I paint that in 6mm with out it looking like half done figs, that have just been primed and faces painted.

I'd paint the basic uniform and saddlecloth in very dark grey (I think Vallejo does a black grey or grey black) and then do the facings in black.

Highlight with dark grey?

Gunfreak07 Nov 2009 7:28 a.m. PST

Highlight 6mm?

choose 1 of the other Hussar regts?…there are plenty to choose from.

I did a unit with black base and highlight with grey, as above.
Their overalls are grey anyway, and they have white lace on the dolmans and pelisse (which is easy to paint on some 6mm figures if the detail is moulded on).
IIRC, the cuffs and collars were red until 1815, and there is a red band on the shabraque.

My old website has some of mine, but unfortunately the larger image is no longer there. For what its worth they are here link

I'm going after an OBB, and it and the 1st brigade in the army of silisia had 3 squadrons of the 2nd leib regiment.

So thats what I have to paint

Swampster07 Nov 2009 8:03 a.m. PST

It may be that 1st and 2nd Leib had a totenkopf on their shako covers, which isn't too hard to do in 6mm.

Gunfreak07 Nov 2009 8:08 a.m. PST

I'm painting irregular figs, and their head are VERY VERY small, probebly 1/3 the size of baccus heads

GF,
These are 15mm AB figures, go just black then blackgrey (vellajo) highlight .It will work on 6mm also.

It's always best to paint black cloth as charcoal gray, with black leather, metal, fur etc. as black. It gives enough contrast AND the cloth areas look right, even in larger scales. Learned that one from an old (now passed on) circus miniature painter.
