I've just about completed the construction of a new ornothopter pictured here: link It's a combination of a Ral Partha Dwarf Ornithopter #2-040 shown here link plus the seated gunner from RAFM's Riel Rebellion Gatling Gun tinyurl.com/ydfdtfu with a Hotchkiss MG from Lyzard's Grin mounted on the front. Now I'm debating what color the wings should be. I'm thinking fabric wouldn't stand up to all the flapping with it's weight. So probably some metal?

Metal or fabric, you could certainly paint the wings to simulate bird plumage. Ornithopters are reminiscent of the Runestaff books and the Dark Empire. |

For VSF, I'd paint the wings in the colors and style of the national flag. Assuming that's a Brit ornithopter, go with aspects of the Union Jack, a white background with either a full Union Jack or at least blue and red angled stripes. If Canadian, the Canadian Red Ensign would be cool: link Or the Blue Ensign: link A red or blue background with the Union Jack on one wing and the Coat of Arms of Canada on the other. Not easy to paint, but the visual impact would be fantastic. Edit: Here are decal sheets with red ensigns: link There are Union Jack decals out there, too. |
