Hi I posted this question a few months back but cannot find the topic. I know there were two regiments who sported white instead of Grey trousers at Waterloo
.my question is who were they? I am about to paint a unit of Perry plastics and need a break from grey trousers. :-) Cheers is advance. |

The story of the 2nd Coldstream guards 1815 at The Château of Hougoumont is really amazing, I'll do them. :-0 |

2nd (Coldstream) AND 3rd Guards (later Scots Guards) at Hougoumont! Defending the complex side by side, companies from both regiments all mixed up togather. |

Hubbynz, Yes. Why would you be interested in men's pants? Are you painting a stripped dead figure, or something? I thought it's only American comic superheros who expose their pants to the casual observer. More than a little worrying. |

"A common people separated by a common language" In the USA pants are trousers. Underwear is underwear aka briefs, boxers, long john's etc |

"In the USA pants are trousers. Underwear is underwear aka briefs, boxers, long john's etc" Yeah, we know
It's just that whenever this comes up, we Brits think it really funny! |

Even if you did strip the Guards of their trousers I doubt you would find pants. I think at the time the average solider just tied his shirt tails between his legs to serve as underwear. |

Mapleleaf 08 Nov 2009 6:49 a.m. PST ''In the USA pants are trousers.'' They must get a bit nippy in the winter, then. |

I was once given an essay by an American Student of mine on the "Sans Culottes", he subtitled it "literally, men without pants". |

Snort. "we Brits think it really funny" As Von Richtoven said in Blackadder: "How lucky you English are to find the toilet so amusing. For us, it is a mundane and functional item. For you, the basis of an entire culture." |

Since this is the Napoleonic Wars, the next thing you know, someone's going to bring up nappys! Doh! |

@Stevus: Brown trousers in the Guards? You've got to be kidding. @Cacadores: When the average winter temperature is higher than average summer temperature in Great Britain, not so much. |

I was referring to most of the South, to be honest, as well as the People's Republic of California. About half the nation's population lives in such conditions, C, and some of the rest of us wish we did! That said, I'm in Idaho, where there's snow in the mountains and I'm looking at temperatures in the upper teens Fahrenheit for the next 5 months. |

I was in Louisiana in November a few years ago, and it wasn't 40 degrees celsius, like it was in Cambridgeshire this summer! |
