I was at the vendor meeting this morning. We were not told any details. From what we were told it sounded like HMGS is trying to get out of it's contract with the BCC. They were "lawyering up" I believe he said. So I'm not sure about the status of H-Con next year. They said we would know by Nov. 23rd if there was going to be one and more details and so forth. |

I think this is WORSE news than the move if that was possible. Another open scism and raw feelings can don no good. High drama I guess, and I can see the viewpoint that the membership was at best divided on the move, the process behind the move and all attendent turmoil. Best Wishes to Pete Panzeri, who did what I am sure he thought was best for the society and hope for the new board. |

I don't know the current HMGS-East bylaws and laws in Maryland, but Pete might want to "lawyer up" himself if it ends up costing the society much in damages to get out of the various contracts/agreements. |
The G Dog | 06 Nov 2009 10:17 p.m. PST |
Wow. I shopped. I gamed. I toured the battlefield. I missed all the drama. |
| tiger g | 07 Nov 2009 11:30 a.m. PST |
Well you might want to look at the bylaws in Maryland for members who might be reponsible if costs exceeds what is in the bank. Officers at least have insurance from the corporation for their accidental acts. |

You guys are acting like a bunch of old ladies (my apologizes to the ladies). All we know is that there has been a change in leadership on the board. That's it. And now we got a lot of chicken littles running around saying the sky is falling. Good Grief. Get a grip. I do have a criticism of the board. When they make changes like like that, they should report it on their website. Has anyone looked to see if it is there? Rich |
aecurtis | 07 Nov 2009 11:42 a.m. PST |
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and nobody loved Cassandra or Laocoon either. Nothing on the HMGS Web site: hmgs.org But I really wouldn't expect anything there right away. Allen |
aecurtis | 07 Nov 2009 11:50 a.m. PST |
Have you seen what "real news" organizations do lately? They just repeat the latest gossip and rumor. This thread is a model of professional journalism by comparison. Allen |

Haven't we seen enough footage of "on the scene" reporters with no substantial updates recently? Or is it time to get a "man on the street" opinion? Or maybe a "talking head"? Kyoteblue, what are your thoughts on these initial reports of a possible coup in the HMGS-East Board of Directors? |

Coup? Really? Talk about speculation

Hello Gang, Hate to bring you off of the non-topic American News quality and anti-Fox statements BUT: back to the rumor mill :) A friend that is attending called and said there was a solid rumor of a dealer pull out of BCC do to all of this turmoil. Several Dealers confirmed this saying the chaos almost guarantees low turn out and thus sales. I want to see HMGS-E flourish but BCC was a loser from day one IMHO. All the best,Clif |

I just want to know what I am going to do with 500 4X t-shirts that say "Baltimore Dingoes Ate Mah Baby". "King of Prussia Dingoes" is kinda lame. |

I just got back from a couple hour tour, and can report that the blood has been hosed off the sidewalks. I can also report that I Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons packed up and ready to go Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway a place where nobody knows The sound of gunfire, off in the distance I'm getting used to it now. I was able to buy 80% of what was on my shopping list, and much that was not. |
John the OFM | 07 Nov 2009 6:16 p.m. PST |
I also heard a DEFINITE RUMOR, from a RELIABLE SOURCE (the guy standing next to me at Eureka) that it will be Valley Forge, 50/50. Or more. Or less. Hammerin' Hank Goldberg on ESPN says to take Valley Forge and the points, but he is 20 and 24 on NFL games this season. Ditka favors the VFW post in Chambersburg. The fantasy players say to bench Favre and play Vick. I talked to one dealer, and he told me something. Another dealer told me something quite different! |
| Scott Mingus | 07 Nov 2009 7:01 p.m. PST |
All this politics confirms why I have never joined HMGS-East and kept my membership in HMGS-Great Lakes for the first 8 years after I moved from Cleveland to York PA. Here's one veteran Civil War gamemaster and author who will NEVER join East until it somehow becomes less political. I get more than enough politics in my job as a senior business executive with a billion dollar international paper company; I certainly don't need to worry about this garbage ruining one of my favorite hobbies. |
| nycjadie | 07 Nov 2009 7:19 p.m. PST |
"Several Dealers confirmed this saying the chaos almost guarantees low turn out and thus sales." Nobody wants to make plans and reservations unless there's a firm commitment and plan. |
| Grunt1861 | 07 Nov 2009 7:49 p.m. PST |
"Yeah, but "Vegas Coyotes" has a ring to it." As opposed to a "Ring of Coyotes in Vegas". So the NEW rumor is that Historicon is now to be held in Vegas? |
| Long Island Gamer | 07 Nov 2009 7:51 p.m. PST |
I went to the membership sensing meeting this morning. The board wants to find out how much it will cost them to pull out of BCC. This does not mean that they are definitely pulling out of the BCC, but it is a possibility if the contract issues are not resolved. The Board is also looking at what weekends are available in Lancaster. There should be an announcement on the 23rd. The new quote of the weekend
BCC
They're suing me! |

I didn't get the gentleman's name – apparently there were two changes on the board this week – one I heard was the Pete Panzari is gone – although he was on the member sensing meeting. |
| Long Island Gamer | 07 Nov 2009 8:29 p.m. PST |
Stranger is not the word for it. I found out allot more – and those were the missing parts of the puzzle. I understand how this disaster happened and why it spun out of control so fast. When I was throwing out questions at Historicon, I though there were too many unanswered questions to make this convention successful. After what I heard today, I know the BCC con will be a disaster. Either way we're losing money – and allot of it. |

I left the member sensing session with the impression that the board would have a statement for the membership regarding the BCC in about two weeks or so. |
| PaintsByNumbers | 07 Nov 2009 9:21 p.m. PST |
So the grand scheme of the indirect approach has worked. Historicon is untrusted by the dealers, and persons are now free to openly associate themselves with GAMAorigins to promote historical miniatures gaming under their auspices. |

Here's the composition of the Board as related by various Directors over the course of the Fall In weekend: President: Frank Preziosa Executive VP: Jim Petrie (newly appointed to complete George Nafziger's term) Secretary: Michelle Preziosa Director of Outreach/Comm: Heather Blush VP for Convention Ops: Orest Swystun (he's the one who talked to the attendees outside the dealer hall just before opening on 6 Nov) Treasurer: Dudley Garidel Director (Awards Program): Pete Panzeri Frank Preziosa has confirmed the Board will make an announcement NLT 23 November as regards whether Historicon 2010 will be at BCC or if it'll be elsewhere. Rich: Bill Gray, the HMGS webmaster, is here at Fall In so I don't expect updates to the website at least until he gets home from the convention

well why didn't the BOD "lawyer up' when the contracts were being developed and agreed too? that's the time for the BOARD, not one person [whom is not, IIRC, a lawyer] to understand what obligations they signing the organization up for. does our corporation not have legal counsel? was it not engaged? |

That is a perfect image of Goldwyrm: a man out standing in his field.
I was away for the last two pages, in a greener field. Synopsis is a reshuffling of the board which I'd heard about, and that a financial risk assessment for BCC is being worked on now, Yes? |

If there WERE lawyers involved, they did a darn fine job, didn't they? Now, what is this based on? Do we know all the terms of the contract(s)? Or are we simply responding to seemingly endless speculation, rumor-mongering, and the like? So far I've read about three or four juicy rumors on this page since returning from Fall In! only to see that they were corrected or amended. Nothing like a good, juicy rumor to get the mob with pitch forks out in the cyber-streets. |
John the OFM | 08 Nov 2009 9:42 a.m. PST |
Has THIS been "corrected or ammended" yet?
Update
I was mistaken about the $160,000 exposure for rooms
that was just for one hotel
the total is about $500,000. If it has, I did not notice it. |
| Condottiere | 08 Nov 2009 9:45 a.m. PST |
And where is the documentary evidence to back this up, or is it simply more rumor mongering? It seems to be more hearsay based on hearsay. In law we call that double hearsay. Worthless. |

| Big Mac | 08 Nov 2009 11:56 a.m. PST |
I was at the sensing meeting and this is what we were told. 1. Pete Panzeri resigned as president he said to sort of let the board explore new options/ideas. 2. There were contractual issues with the BCC. It seems that BCC is not honoring some things that were agreed upon verbally, but not in writing. 3. The Board will make an announcement in 2 weeks as to whether to eat the cost of whatever the BCC is going back on or eat the cost of moving the convention. 4. The Lancaster Host has already booked another event or events during the same weekend. 5. There were several other convention sites that were "drooling" over having us such as Dulles and Valley Forge. 6. Lawyers are involved. |
| Big Mac | 08 Nov 2009 12:00 p.m. PST |
Oh, and then there was a lively discussion about how there are some major communications issues between the Board and the membership and vice versa. |
