If you are in or near or planning to visit New York City, do not miss the Samurai armor exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is incredible. It also has some rare and fragile items that will be replaced by others during the exhibition. I saw a suit of cavalryman's armor that is only up for another week. They have swords lining the walls, including some that belonged to Oda Nobunaga and Tokagawa. One is reputed to habe been used by Nobunaga to dlice through a table and kill some miscreant.

And then you can always visit the permanent armor collection on your way out. Messonier's painting of Friedland (l'Apogee) is also on display in European paintings.

I've seen the show twice already. It's the best armor exhibition I've ever seen. It's truly magnificent. A must see if you're in New York before the end of the year. Many pieces will be changed in the first week of December.

Anyone able to get pictures (or are there some posted on the Met's website)?

I'd love to see the show, but am trapped in Idaho for the next several years.

The Met wouldn't let me take photographs due to copyright issues. There are a few on the Met website.
