Hi, I'll Be traveling to NYC next week and am looking for a store that carries a huge selection of minis, both historical and fantasy, in NYC or NJ. Willing to travel to store if it is on any of the train lines. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks surfingMoose |

The War Store is way out on Long Island if your looking for a drive. |

That is a bit too far and will be a last resort. But thank you for the quick reply Drferling |

Brigade games is in Kinnelon, NJ. You can Google map it and see how far from NYC it is? His contact info is in the Manufacturers lists. |

No stores with historical figures in NYC. Complete Strategist is a premier gaming store near to Empire State building. It has mainly fantasy figures and many boardgames. |

I go to the Compleat Strategist whenever I'm in NYC. Someone there told me about a store in NJ that carried a lot of historical, but have forgotten the name of the store. Thanks IGWARG1. Thanks Ogdenlulimus, I'll take a look later. |

I would call Maplewood Hobbies about 25 minutes west of NYC. Only store I know that carries historical and fantasy. What are your gaming interests? There is another one near Carlstadt that only carries plastics 1/72 but do not know if it is still there. From what I remember it was more of a distribution center. |

The War Store is a good 100 miles from NYC. Probably take you at least 2 hours to get there. Maplewood Hobby on the other hand is less than a mile from the Maplewood station, so probably 20 minutes or so from Penn Station taking NJ Transit. Never been to either place so can't vouch for them. |

Maplewood Hobbies is definitely one of those funky old-style stores with shelf-upon-shelf of interesting stuff. The problem is that they don't seem to have very complete lines. I always find HALF of what I'm looking for. Still, worth a peek, and the crowd there has always been pleasant. - Bob |

Maplewood is the way to go if you want a combo of historical and sci-fi/fantasy. He's got a great selection of static models and train-stuff and terrain as well. His really is one of the old fashioned hobby shops with a wee bit of everything. Say hi to John for me. Not too far away there is also Dark Tower Games in Denville NJ. He's got some mini's, board games and all sorts of RPGs and card games. Say hi to Rob for me if you go to Dark Tower. Both places have really really nice staff. I used to live in the area and these were my two haunts :D link link |

We had discussed moving to NJ and I told my wife that we should look at Maplewood, solely because of the hobby store. Steve |

I stumbled across the Compleat Strategist while at the Empire State Building. What luck that was. Great store and atmosphere. I've also been to the Warstore. Not an easy place to find even though it's on practically the only road through the north side of wine country there. It's on a farm and completely hidden from everything. It was worth the trouble though! Like shopping in a warehouse full of gaming stuff. Actually, that's exactly what it was. |
