"What is your least favorite thing to paint?" Topic

In your favorite genre, there must be something you loath to paint. I paint 1/300 aircraft and for the most part I really enjoy doing it, but I have two things that I hate to paint. The yellow leading edge I.D. panels on WWII Japanese aircraft and canopies with raised relief.

Cavalry.

I don't mind the horses, it's the guys on the back I can't stand painting.

Any figure wearing armor…especially chainmail. I don't know why.

I hated painting the 10mm goblin hordes for Battle of the Five Armies. Multiple strips of the same figures (only two varieties of strips). Even varying the shield and weapons colors, it got monotonous very quickly. I became thoroughly sick of green paint.

The other figures didn't affect me that way, possibly because there were fewer stands of each.

I second cavalry. 3 times the work for one piece.

Horses for me

Spoked wheels. It used to be horses but I enjoy doing them now.

Rank and File of any kind. I love command, standard bearers, artillery and mounted. Like making little vinettes for the officer or skirmishers. But I grid away at the standard foot. Lots of projects with everything but the massed infantry.

Ceilings.

Red Coats. I love the British Army but I hate painting all of those red coats. It presents a bit of a conundrum for me, don't you think?

Faces

I don't care the scale, they always come out wrong.

Ceilings are okay when you have a roller extension, no moving the ladder every few minutes. Of course ones needs some really good tunes.

Spoked wheels in 6mm.

Almost anything small and red, cos red don't cover very well.

Jana – put a pole in the hole at the end of the roller handle – celings become MUCH easier when you do that.

Flames.

Eyes.
One always looks great; the other one looks like I painted it with the brush held in my teeth.

Try Cel Vinyl's reds, they cover black very well.

Miniatures.

It's something of a love-hate thing for me.

Chariots/Artillery. I love them on the table, but loathe painting them I don't mind the crew or horses, just the hardware itself has left many armies unfinished for me…

Horses. Hate it.

Sandals. I've painted army after army with sandals. Even the horse and musket period – with Mexicans.

They take and age, but are barely visible.

Hussars and Vikings.

Non too keen on Celts either.

Strangely enough Celts and Vikings are some of my favourite troops types.

I also totally despise the lace trim on 18th century tricorns. I always find this a real pig to do well.

Napoleonic Austrian Hussars…too fiddly.

(Clue – fellers in skirts and feathery hats….)

#1 Cavalry – don't know why, but I despise painting the horses.

#2 White uniforms – probably because of that 15mm Austrian army ("Why don't you do Austrians Mike! With white uniforms and white leather gear, they'll be easy to paint." NOT!!!!!)

I would hate tartan, but I just avoid wargaming wars where I need to paint Scotsmen.

I hate painting faces and vehicles.

I love painting American Revolution, and hate painting straps, particularly white ones. Conundrum-wise, ditto.

Ditto horses. Hate painting 15mm infantry, don't mind painting vehicles (hate putting them together though).

I would say tartan but I don't buy the figures in the first place. Am I the only person with a British Napoleonic army without any kilted infantry?

Shoes, boots, feet in general.

The same miniature twice.

Leather straps and belt buckles. Ugh.

Can't really say I hate painting anything, and love painting horses. :-) Though I like painting Samurai the least…by-standers/NPC's also, it's just difficult getting excited painting them.
