Who makes Russian 15mm Combat Engineers? mjc |

Battlefront and Peter Pig. Battlefront do Mid-War, Late War and Engineer-Sappers in camo overalls & body armour. link Cheers Mark |

Soviet? Or are you consciously excluding Ukrainians, Byelorussians, Central Asians, and such? Also Quality Castings (Old Glory 15s). But mine are Battlefront, with a few odd PP ones to go with the Old Glory/Command Decision infantry; they fit better. Allen |

I'm impressed if you can tell a Russian engineer from a Ukrainian one at that scale (except for the different colour vodka bottle, of course) ;-) |
aecurtis | 02 Nov 2009 4:29 p.m. PST |
The Ukrainian would be a stalwart, handsome son of Taras Bulba, no? |
Mal Wright | 02 Nov 2009 4:30 p.m. PST |
Ahhhh
the Ukraine ones are usually much more blond. Oh
hang on
.they are wearing helmets anyway! |
Jovian1 | 02 Nov 2009 4:33 p.m. PST |
You can tell the Ukrainian from the Russian because the Ukrainian is on his knees with his vodka bottle, while the Russian is only mildly staggering. |

But a true Slavic hero would cast aside his helmet and stand defiantly amongst the mines with his blond, wavy hair rippling in the breeze. The upright proletarian also rejects vodka: picture Allen |

Didn't see the Peter Pig combat engineers -- what pack number is this? mjc |

It's a mixed bag (8/149): picture No they're not named as such, but rather "assault troops"; however Soviet RVGK assault engineers were about the only troops who ever received that body armor: link link Allen |

149: picture They are engineer-sappers. Battlefront's LW and engineer-sappers are the best in my opinion. Cheers Mark |

Allen: nice links! Quidveritas: It's nice to know that I'm not the only one bothered by the raw deal the Red Army gets from most mini manufacturers. I hate to praise Battlefront, but I have to hand it to them: they have made building a Soviet force in 15mm viable. Peter Pig has a nice range, but it is extremely limited where the Red Army is concerned. BF has put out an impressive array of Soviet figs, and their engineers are the best out there. PP's engineers are too few, too few. The QC engineers are ok, buy very small, even next to CD/Old Glory figures. I bought mine when they were the only real choice, and I had to subtly thicken the bases to make them even come close to fitting my other figures. I am preparing to buy several packs of BF Soviet engineers in various flavors, and I would recommend them to you as well. Thanks for this thread! Now we need more variety in Soviet command, staff, some slackers and shirkers, etc. Where are the "Soviets drinking vodka" packs!?!?!?!?! |

"some slackers and shirkers, etc." There are no slackers in the Red Army of Workers and Peasants. "But a true Slavic hero would cast aside his helmet and stand defiantly amongst the mines with his blond, wavy hair rippling in the breeze." Indeed. They do that all the time. Just watch those Hitlerites run. |

With all due respect, DH, that is a "SOVIET drinking vodka" pack: singular. In order to get that one vodka guzzler, I have to buy all those useless "Soviets with weapons fighting" figures. What will I do with them???? |
GeoffQRF | 06 Nov 2009 8:40 a.m. PST |
Most of the former Soviets I know would never drink from the bottle
vodka should be very cold, and taken in small glasses with plenty to eat. Beer, on the other hand, seems to be drunk from anything (usually with dried salty fish) |

Hey Geoff! I agree, but then, in combat, one drinks from whatever is handy! :-) Glantz describes Soviet soldiers straining the alcohol out of the parafin/alcohol mixture in their lanterns on the Leningrad front and drinking it, even though it tasted horrible. I'm not sure you could model that action in 15mm, but it would be an interesting challenge! |
