And, will be at Fall In.
You can't copyright a dimension…

OK, at full price, BF "medium" bases are 26 for $11.00, or 42 cents apiece.

Wargames Accessories' "FOW 2" (medium) steel bases are 24 for $5.00, or 21 cents apiece.

Litko's least expensive option would be 100 x 0.8mm plywood bases for $23.99, or 24 cents apiece.

Sounds to me like you'll be looking for someone carrying Wargames Accessories.

Does BF even stay consistent with the dimensions?

aecurtis Fezian31 Oct 2009 6:48 p.m. PST

Except for some of their fancified resin ones in boxed sets, yes.

Considering that the infantry and artillery bases are injection molded, it would be hard NOT to stay consistent. That would require staggeringly incompetent engineering. grin

I have not bothered to do any dimensional studies on any resin castings, though. That's too much like work and ISO9000 and QS9000.

I've already based all my 15mm stuff using the BF bases, but I have been very pleased with some of the thicker Litko bases for ease of handling. It looks like they're only a buck more for quantities of 100. Definitely worth a consideration.

I've used the Litko option thus far. Need to order a ton more too it looks like. I use the plywood bases – they work very well.

I've started using the wargames accessory bases. It is so much easier and the figs and putty seem to stick to them better. Plus transport is much easier on magnet.

I've been using Litko bases too. Up to-day, not strictly for FoW, but for a FoW-based Spanish Civil War gaming. They work pretty well, even with 20mm minis instead of 15mm's. A few examples:

In fact, I've been lately collecting a considerable stock of Litko bases for all of my armies: FoW Soviets, DBM/FoG Ancient Greeks and Medieval Aragonese, PoW Spanish Succession Austro-Catalans and Napoleonic Austro-Hungarians, and so…

Besides, at Litko you're able to choose bases width -thus allowing you to select those fitting best with your already built units

Can't get much cheaper than cutting them from mount board.

aecurtis Fezian01 Nov 2009 10:17 a.m. PST

Yes, and one could go out into the woods and whittle them from pine bark. But I suspect John is looking for a commercial product.

Woods? Luxury! We 'ad to carve ours out of the bones of a grizzly bear after killing the beast with our bare teeth!

A table saw and some birch hobby plywood from a Michael's-type store is still your cheapest bet, assuming you already paid for the table saw for more "serious" purposes, that is. Clean, neat, cheap, and you made it yourself!

bobstro01 Nov 2009 2:24 p.m. PST

I've never been very good at making table saws.

Renaissance Ink bases will be carried at Fall In by Quarter Master.

Sheet Metal 18 @ $3.75 USD (all sizes under 60mm)
all other materials $4.75 USD per pack

I admit I bought my table saw…

:-)

Waitaminit… Was John really just trying to say that he couldn't copyright *his* dimensions?
