When they are in there though nothing beats the Jags

Agreed…to be honest my main reason for liking Accies or the Jags is that they aren't Rangers or Celtic [despite my Grandpa being a diehard Gers supporter].

The Gray Ghost27 Oct 2009 3:05 p.m. PST

I have always favored the London teams.
I'm a long time Tottenham fan but you don't get a lot of coverage of them over here, except for this year.
Of the Big Four I go for Chelsea.

Absolutely sod all, in the same way that 'ur' has sod all to do with the English language.

Manchester City!

Feet up now27 Oct 2009 3:38 p.m. PST

Liverpool has always been the main team, even though I grew up in the East end of London.

Managed to avoid the WHU and Millwall wargames back in the day.

Lee Brilleaux Fezian27 Oct 2009 3:51 p.m. PST

I've been a Birmingham City fan since I was eight.

It has taught me strength in adversity.

Serves you right Jack. Up the Baggies :)

quidveritas27 Oct 2009 3:57 p.m. PST

There is a sports topic board you know.

Sorry, but soccer isn't war -- not any more than walking the streets in some major US cities at night -- and probably a lot less lethal.

None – I was bad in my last life, so God punished me by making me a Bristol Rovers fan….

ashill27 Oct 2009 4:18 p.m. PST

Liverpool born and bred and a red till I die. Of the London teams I'd go for Arsenal, because they also wear red and they have a military name. Of the North East teams I'd go for Sunderland because my Uncle Ed used to live there. Of the Midlands teams I'd go for Aston Villa becuase when I played football in school the team colours were claret and blue.

Gunner through and through. Although I was born in Newmarket, my mum is from Holloway, born at home in sight of Highbury. There is only one club allowed in her family. This hallowed tradition has been passed on to my children along with an irrational hatred of Tottenham (despite having several friends who are Spurs supporters, funny old game isn't it).

Of course my father who was born in South Carolina still does not understand my footie fanaticism.

casual or fanatic

You're a Sherman, aren't you? There are no casual football supporters in the UK, as Bill Shankly succinctly pointed out many years ago. There are of course football casuals, who are amongst the most fanatic.

Keep up.

My hearts with Pescara Calcio but my head supports S.S. Lazio.
what is this English league you speak of?

It's kind of like Italian football, but you don't know the result until the end of the match…. ;-)

The Premier league is a over rated marketing machine that has no baring on real football, till Newcastle returns……back to mid table mediocrity :) (if we stay lucky!!!)-do you agree Comrade Commissar?

TodCreasey28 Oct 2009 6:37 a.m. PST

Arsenal supporter. I lived in London during the 97-98 double year and went to every game when I lived there so I think that makes me a fanatic.

Every child in the family (and that includes my best mates kits) is required to be a Gooner as well. 3 year old son chanted Arsenal! during a Boro fans wedding (fortunately they missed it).

Being kids they are happy to go along with that to get the football strips I bring back for them (I live in Canada now).

Prince Rupert of the Rhine28 Oct 2009 7:41 a.m. PST

The Premier legaue is overrated, no competition same old top four every year yawn…. The fizzy pop leagues are much more intresting. Of course as a Saints fan I have to say that league one is where the real fans hang out.
Still if I have to pick a premier league team it's which everone is humiliting the blue few (pompey) down the road this week. Nothing like hearing pompey got stuffed again to brighten up my day.

Dom how do you see the cup tie panning out? I reckon Rickie Lambert might be Bristol rovers undoing.

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP28 Oct 2009 7:56 a.m. PST

Sod's law firmly dictates 3-0 Saints with a Lambert hat-trick…. In all honesty that doesn't even seem too unlikely the way Rovers are falling apart at the moment; fantastic start to the season, but when you lose at home to Yeovil you know the wheels have come off….

That said, I was pleased with the draw regardless, although I was hoping the match might be televised. (Sadly not; the Friday kick-off is police request because of a clash with another game on the Saturday.)

As for "no competition" though, sadly that's League 1 all over this season – I can't see the top two being anything other than Leeds and Charlton to be honest, so everyone else will have to scrap over the play-off spots….

TeutonicTexan28 Oct 2009 7:58 a.m. PST

Been a Newcastle supporter for a few years, but till they get promoted back to the Premier after this season…

"Blue is the color…"

Jay Wirth Fezian28 Oct 2009 8:24 a.m. PST

Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
'Cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name

Oh, and BTW Joe Cole is AWSOME!

Jeremy Sutcliffe28 Oct 2009 8:24 a.m. PST

I'd go with "anyone who's playing Manchester United" but after that any (historical)Lancashire side before any other, then any other before any team from London.

N.B. A true Mancunian supports City.

What the Bleeped text has this got to do with wargaming?

Exceptions are allowed for the Poll Suggestions board, since there is no constraint for TMP polls to be limited to wargaming topics.

ComradeCommissar28 Oct 2009 9:44 a.m. PST

Agreed, CHANTYAM! Relegation has really has hurt my interest in the EPL this year, but I'll be back when the Magpies return…

Jeremy Sutcliffe28 Oct 2009 9:52 a.m. PST

What's it got to do with wargaming?

There's scope for an interesting three way wargame.

Two mobs of differently uniformed levy armed with simple throwing weapons, possibly (in the old WRG terms) "E" class fanatics (perhaps including a unit of "A" class neo-Nazi Thugs) and a third army of police, Light Medium Infantry with club (possible upgrade to Light Heavy Infantry with shields)

I can see the Perry's working on the figures now.

christot28 Oct 2009 10:32 a.m. PST

West Ham….someone has to do it.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine28 Oct 2009 11:00 a.m. PST

Yes things seem to have gone a lttle wonkey since your lucky win at St Marys (cracking game though despite the score), on the other hand it seems it gave Saints the kick up the backside we needed we are now on five wins in a row. I reckon it's going to be 3-1 to Saints if only because thats our score every week at the momement.

Leeds will win the league this year but Charlton will fall away they've got no money and no strength in depth, Norwich will be second I think with Saints to win the play offs (maybe).

Grey Ghost.
We may have to disown you as a Lilywhite. Your only defence may be you are a Sherman. The 'next team over' isn't your second team- they are your deadliest enemies. You are honour bound to revel in every misfortune of Chelsea and Arsenal.

It's kind of like Italian football, but you don't know the result until the end of the match
and with a Man U game, maybe not even then.

none – my team is too rubbish to be in the premiership
none – football sucks big time
