Just watched Beneath the POTA last night. Apes had field guns and everything. Very inspirational. |

Sure, lamellar armor it is then. I will have more specific information after another sculptor update meeting tomorrow. |

I should have photos of a complete test sculpt this Friday. There will be lamellar armor and as requested strong hairy arms :D No punch weapon, as well as no solid metal shoulder pads. The leaders will be slightly larger than average ape grunts. Typically, each ape will be armed with a main weapon as well as a sidearm / blade weapon. Line infantry will also have protective shields / shooting stands. My main question now will be, what do you say for some specific poses like hanging / standing on one arm / leg and shooting with three others ? Such a mini could be posed on a tree / lamp. What do you say ? |

"My main question now will be, what do you say for some specific poses like hanging / standing on one arm / leg and shooting with three others ? Such a mini could be posed on a tree / lamp. What do you say?" Wow, that would rock! I would start with standard infantry and cavalry first, and then move on to the more creative types. I love the idea though. Check this out: picture Dan |

Piotr, As much as really cool acrobatic poses may be appealing, they may fall short with the wargaming crowd who is likely 90% of your 15mm market. If you want to action packed, then do keep your apes firmly planted on the ground. Sure, this may not be as fun, but it will keep them marketable. As far as poses I would like to see besides legit combat poses (advances with weapons at ready, gesturing orders, arming to fire, etc) I'd look at the following - 1) Gorilla Beat Down – Arms up, mouth open as if the ape were in the process of inflicting that vicious great ape downward punch on an enemy. 2) Silverback Charge – Ape moving forward, perhaps on three limbs (still holding gun) with a menacing expression. 3) Foot Reload – Ape firing with hands but holding spare magazine with foot. 4) Stately Gorilla – Poised on all fours, surveying the battlefield with a thoughtful expression. -Eli |

A very early sculpt. I shouldn't be even posting this since the Simian is still not complete [missing left hand and part of weapon]. Updates with more minis soon. picture picture |

Piotr, Overall very, very nice! I love the bare (hairy) arms a lot, as well as the general posture of the figure. There are two points that, to me, seem to stand out though. 1) Thighs need to be more muscular, fuller, than those of today's gorillas. They are, after all, more evolved and mostly bipedal; and 2) The face/nose right now look more pig-like than ape-like. The eyes could stand to be closer together. Also, please note gorilla faces like this one, which shows how prominently the mouth sticks in front of the face (more in adult males than females and juveniles), and how the nose is really placed flat and slanted about 45 degrees in profile: picture picture Here's the reason: picture link It is definitely not easy. I know. I made several failed attempts a couple of years ago (for 28mm), and never got the right look: link link link You are certainly on the right track, and are breaking new ground as the first person to really attempt 15mm SF gorilla troops. Let me know what you think of my suggestions, please. I definitely want to know if our vision is similar and in what ways. Thanks. Dan PS. Check this out: picture picture deepquad.com/accueil.html |
