"In the book, Wells himself is the main character, who witnesses the Martian attack alongside his fiancée Jane, Thomas Huxley, and Percival Lowell. The British government brings them together with Dr. Moreau and Hawley Griffin, who help develop a strain of cholera to be used against the Martians. Wells travels to the Moon to help free the Selenites, who have been enslaved by the Martians, before joining forces to end the Martian menace once and for all." link Martians. Selenites. Humans. What a mix!!! picture Regardless of the quality of the book, would the general premise itself make for a decent game at all? CC link |

When is either Mars or war (or better still, both) a bad premise for a game? :) |

I could only get through about half the book, but it reminded me a lot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen link – the comic books, not the movie. I thought it would make a great VSF or pulpy setting. |

Really liked the book. I liked how the author mixed actual historical people with Wells' characters. I too felt it was similar to the League. As to wargaming it, it definately sounds fun, especially with all the unique characters that can be included. |

Yep. an electronic library, in a handheld reader unit. Been out for a bit, but the publishers are resisting the idea for some reason, can't agree on a data format. |

Thanks, Lion! Now for the rules . . . What rules could be used for Selenites, Martians and Humans, and in all those different environments (Moon, Mars and Earth)? CC |

Don't forget to add the whole other Martian war stream -- John Carter. Volume 2 of LXG takes the premise that the Invaders of earth were originally invaders of Mars, not native. The Carter environment is the "true" martian environment and those creatures, plus Carter can join the earth forces to fight the invader. Maybe even add the clever Martian creatures from Space 1889. All nicely put together with Hordes of the Thing. |
