Something to offset the negative or critical button. It shouldn't be all one way. JW |

Why, life is mostly all one way. The attaboys rcvd at work are usually meaningless and leave most folks rightly waiting for the other shoe. We are born, we suffer and then we die. Frankly death should be enough of a reward for anyone. |

Right, instead of a s t i f l e you give them a "hug" or a "gold star"
I like it. |

If we contrast it with an honest it will just enhance it's perception as an insult, instead of it simply being a tool for not having to suffer through what you choose not to. Then again, why not? It will only hurt those who misinterpret s. |
John the OFM | 22 Oct 2009 3:41 p.m. PST |
Attaboys should not negate or remove stiffles. Just post them side by side for comparison. "See? The OFM isn't all THAT bad! He has 61 stiffles, and 3 Attaboys!" |

Good idea. Make the button hobby-related, like a 6 on a d6, or a paintbrush? |

But it must be like s, you can only give one atta'boy to a person. Otherwise the mutual admiration society would produce results similar to grade inflation in colleges. |
Neotacha | 22 Oct 2009 6:14 p.m. PST |
Wait, there's grade inflation in college? ;) I see no reason not to have attaboys, although I would prefer something rather more neutral. But a kudos button of some sort, so folks stop using the good trader star for being nice would be useful. |

This is the 3rd or 4th time we've discussed something like this in the last few years. Pretty much works exactly like the S thing but positive. I vote yes again. |
Martin Rapier | 23 Oct 2009 3:04 a.m. PST |
Lots of other forums have an 'agree with this' type function for individual posts. So why not. |
General Montcalm | 23 Oct 2009 7:02 a.m. PST |
Why not just have an agree / disagree bar on every post. With a click total. One man one click only. Seperate from s. |

Why is the word (stiffle) bleeped? What moron put that in place? |

We did, by one vote in a Poll several months ago. Don't you read your Memos? It's only got a litle bit of time left. I find it eccentric and refreshing and silly. The poll reflected the fact that we (the vast minority who bothereed to vote, but the majrity of those who did) were sick and tired of the wailing and pants wetting of those who could not abide being publicly ignored. |
freerangeegg | 24 Oct 2009 3:04 a.m. PST |
I think its a great idea. So now we need a poll on the kudos/attaboy button? |
raducci | 24 Oct 2009 3:44 a.m. PST |
Id like the opportunity to say something positive to a heap of great TMP folk. |

"We did, by one vote in a Poll several months ago. Don't you read your Memos? It's only got a litle bit of time left. I find it eccentric and refreshing and silly." Thats awesome! So whats the next one going to be? Can I suggest the word TMP (is it a word?) Anyway, think of the fun to be had if TMP became bleep! in every post. |
Minondas | 24 Oct 2009 3:19 p.m. PST |
I like it. However (and sorry if it's already been observed, haven't read all the posts), a star/attaboy or whatever it could be called would be for a single post, is for a user – two different things. If I somebody, I no longer wish to read anything posted by that TMP:er, so any praise in the future would not be possible. That's why I always have such a dilema with AECurtis – I hate the fact that he's so negative and snarky, but his knowledge is superiour on so many topics
damned if you do, damned if you don't. :) |
raducci | 24 Oct 2009 3:45 p.m. PST |
@Minondas In some parts of the country "AECURTIS" is a synonym for love-hate. I expect it to appearin the next Oxford dictionary. |

It's only got a litle bit of time left. I find it eccentric and refreshing and silly. Agreed. In fact, once that time limit is up, we should pick some other random word to have bleeped for three months. It adds variety and character. |
