Instead of just saying "here's our early Etruscan models", I wanted to provide a little background and context for our Etruscan range. I don't think enough miniatures companies provide this sort of "primer" as to what exactly they're attempting with any given miniatures line. I'm not saying it's necessary, and certainly part of the charm of ancients gaming/collecting is doing your own research. But that said, I find that I'm often curious about specifics in regards to a particular range of figures.

To that end, I just wanted to have a brief "into" to the early Etruscans and explain what we're hoping to accomplish with the range. I wanted Gorgon's process to be relatively transparent; detailing what decisions we've made and what we plan to release. The Etruscan range is our first original range, so it's a bit of an experiment.

I also wanted to thank everyone- I can't believe the amount of support we've received so far. Gorgon Studios is really just a few hobbyist's labour of love and to have come this far already wouldn't have been possible without you guys. Especially Allen and Jeff.

Dave,

Thanks for this – a very useful overview. The figures look fantastic btw, and as soon as I have reduced my lead mountain a bit I can see myself ordering plenty of them!

Dave

Lovely figures.

Is there a UK distributor/shop for Gorgon? I can't see one referred to on your site and Google didn't bring one up.

Cheers
Dave
(too many Daves)

All these Daves reminds me of a 'Kids in the Hall' sketch…

As to a UK distributor, we are currently shipping directly to the UK (and the rest of Terra) ourselves. There may eventually be a UK distributor, but as of now we'll ship to you (for decent rates too, I believe).

Thanks Dave I'll check the postage out.

I remember Kids in the Hall but not that sketch. I do however remember the Monty Python "Bruce" sketch.

Hi Dave

The Etrusci miniatures, could be used for early Romans too? Or had they a different panoplia?

basileus66,
This is a great question. In general, the hoplites could indeed be early/Tullian Roman hoplites. Likewise, in a similar way, the Italian 2nd/3rd Class spearmen could be tribes allied with Rome, instead of one of the Etruscan city-states, like Veii.

Certain pieces of equipment are more "Etruscan" than others. The Negau style helmet, for example, is more identified with the Etruscans than the Romans.

That said, and I don't think this is a secret, but we plan on releasing a couple more packs of hoplites at the end of this range that have early Montefortino style helmets. This will give you a more iconic early Roman hoplite. Our intention, when all is said and done, is to be able to use the range to create either an Etruscan or Tullian Roman army and their allied Italian troops.

My personal goal is to have the models and terrain to do Lars Porsenna at Rome convention demo game.

Hi Dave,

Montefortinos sound great; any chance of a few hoplites in pilos, as well?

Cheers, Simon
