For pseudohistorical stuff in kilts and sporting scifi weapons as well as the ever ubiquitous claymores (the sword, that is): * Infinity has Galvegians under their Ariadna line, they are a little taller than your regular 28mm troops tho and don't come cheap * some of the Warzone Wolfbanes look the part, they are more feral with furs and such, also their weapons are somewhat more primitive-looking; these might be hard to get hold of, Prince August in Ireland and Ral Partha Europe probably have the best selections * Chiltern Miniatures has "Galactic Highlanders" with rather pulpy-looking weapons, in pix they seem to be the weakest sculpts of the bunch but also fairly cheap and easy to come by (I assume) I have no idea where you'd get Hover Sheep. Sorry. |

So if we are going down the stereotypical kilted Scotman, what do the English soldiers wear? Bowler hats and briefcases? Straw boaters and Oxbridge blazers? |

"So if we are going down the stereotypical kilted Scotman, what do the English soldiers wear? Bowler hats and briefcases? Straw boaters and Oxbridge blazers?" Only the Officers ;) the rank and file wear flat caps and have pet whippets for Nrothern Regiments, Southern regiments are dressed as Pearly kings and Queens whilst West country and East Anglians wear smocks and charge into battle crying Ooh arghh I do like those Inifinty figure btw |

Seriously though (lol) what you need to look at is the BCW threads on the Gentlemans Wargame Parlour site for inspiration, set in 1938 but it has the same premise. I wouldnt go too outlandish for Scots unless you are looking for a post apocalyptic theme, they would have British kit possibly with some imported stuff so go for Scots regulars perhaps change uniform colour to Hodden grey or blue bonnets, standards are the thing though to add flavour |
| Martin Rapier | 22 Oct 2009 5:51 a.m. PST |
"I have no idea where you'd get Hover Sheep" Irregular sheep (or even toy sheep) mounted on flight stands. Perhaps more seriously, if Scotland went independant, perhaps they've revive the Auld Alliance – so Scottish soldiers would be wearing French kit and carrying FAMAS rifles (which look pretty sci-fi already). Brits would of course be in their traditional DPM, none of this multi-cam nonsense and I would hope in the future they'd have reverted to carrying proper rifles like SLRs, although no doubt by then we'll be lugging some sort of the American thing around, the 6mm M5 (export). |

I'd be tempted to use British troops with a tartan band on their helmets or sleeves to set them off as Scots. You said it was near future, so I wouldn't go for a too over the top look. Perhaps Brits with head swaps to a tam or cap? Just a thought. |

. I suspect Health and safety would intervene and only permit them to use rubber bands (cut in half, for safety purposes) |

what would you imagine identifying characteristics of the Scottish soldiers would be? link [I'm Scottish..I'm allowed to perpetuate my own stereotype ] I would have posted a Youtube Link like everyone else does but I'm at work and that's a hanging offence! |

If you want over the top stuff, there are these from Chiltern: link Of course, Chiltern figs are on the big size and will completely dwarf the TAG figures. |

I like Lowtardog and Rapier's ideas. Maybe thoses TAG Black Watch in grey uniforms, and some modern EU troops, I could see the europeans jumping to scotlands aid against England. Even if they did not send troops in, they'd probly give weapons and equipment
I see a sci-fi 1745 coming on

I kind of like the DOOMSDAY movie. I know they aren't that identifiable as Scottish but they are cool a punker type. link |
