The Lynx was the Rhodesian Air Force name for the Cessna 336 Skymaster. link

There is a 1/72 scale kit of the Cessna Skymaster, but I fear it would look ridiculous next to my 1/100 scale helicopters.

I'd bash something (or try to), but their aren't *any* Cessna's of any kind close to 1/100. (I had thought of taking a regular Cessna and cutting off the rear and adding the tail from two helicopter models to create the unique tail arrangement.)

I have purchased a Model Power Diecast Cessna for use as a SAAF Bosbok, but it is 1/87 and being Diecast would be impossible to mod.

Does anyone have any ideas I haven't thought of?

Thanks,

Mark

Carve it from wood and plastic, same as I do when I make a master?

daddyslittlemen20 Oct 2009 11:22 a.m. PST

Only if you'll pay me $100 USD for the master when I'm done. ;)

GeoffQRF20 Oct 2009 11:42 a.m. PST

That's less than it normally costs for a master, so careful or we may take you up on it…

Hrm…. I may need to pester Geoff some more then.

Too bad shipping the master across the Atlantic would get annoyingly expensive (for me)

Mark, I painted up the plane in the upper right corner for Ed a few weeks back.

I don't know that it was perfect to scale, but it may at least make a good base for conversion.

Geoff,

Correction on my earlier post, it was actually the Reims-Cessna FTB 337G.

Anyway, I have an idea for you. Contact these folks "emodelairplanes"
tinyurl.com/yfb5o8o

They have an ebay store and they make airplanes out of wood and finish and paint them for about $150 USD each. Perhaps they'd make a smaller version as a master for you for a reasonable price?

You might try this chap. He produces a 1/100 version. I have one of them and they are quite nice. Actually thinking of buying a scond one.

There's even an image here…

Looks pretty good.

Now if I could just figure out his website and how much to pay for postage, etc. It may be the most messed up commerce site I've seen in the last 5 years.

Cool, one of the models I've been looking for. For 15mm Vietnam FAC!!!! Now if only I could find a Cessna BirdDog . . . .

GeoffQRF20 Oct 2009 3:15 p.m. PST

Most of these will sell you a model, but are understandably not willing to permit you to use it for casting your own!

Just sent in my order. VonStengel I owe you a beer. Thanks!

If this works out I'm going to be very happy.

Matchbox did a roughly 1/100 scale diecast Cessna in their Skybusters range which you can pick up off ebay for a couple of quid. It would take quite a bit of work to convert but might do the job?

*Nearly* finished plane on my blog. Very happy with the way it turned out.

Thanks again to VonStengel!
