I've not posted in over a year or so as I've been very ill. However that is behind me now and I'm pleased to say that I'm almost fully recovered. As I haven't been able to sculpt for over a year I thought I'd start with something a bit bigger than I have done in the past, so I sculpted and painted a Cthulhu. Here he is (with a 28mm figure for comparison): picture picture picture picture picture picture picture picture I really enjoyed sculpting something this big and I think I'll do a few more large sculpts to get back into the groove. Cheers for now. |

I love it!!! Well-sculpted and wellpainted. Did you chronicle its creation? I've been looking to sculpt a Cthulhu, or another elder being, and it'd be nice to see how someone else went about doing it. If you don't, this piece is inspiration enough! Greenstuff? Sculpey? Other sculpting material? And glad to hear you're back and healthy! Can't wait to see more of your creations. |

Fantastic piece. You've got some talent there or made a deal with some supernatural power. |
Acharnement | 16 Oct 2009 4:30 p.m. PST |
Alarming. I was expecting a statue-like pose but yours has considerably more menace. The sculpting and the painting combine to have real impact. That's a little too real in fact. |

Wow! Thanks for all the compliments guys. It's good to be back and sculpting again. Evilcartoonist – I didn't take any WIP shots, sorry. I made him out of Super Sculpey over a wire armature whilst listening to some unabridged H P Lovecraft audio books. I think the audio books are the key ingredient (smile). I'll try and take some WIP pictures of the next one I make. Cheers S |

Big C looks almost benevolent
he's not angry or raging
just doing the laid back Buddha thing. |

Please make one for Black Cat Bases to mold. Hey, Black Cat Bases, since I voiced the idea first do I get a free one from you? joking

Thanks for all the positive comments guys you've really inspired me. All this talk about moulding, casting and people wanting to buy him has got me thinking. I've decided to sell this sculpture on eBay so that I can raise some of the funds to mould and cast a Cthulhu inspired chess set and board I'm working on. I was just making it for myself, but now I think others might want one as well. I'll also sculpt another Big C like the one in the pictures above and see if I can get it cast. Because I don't think I could tackle something with the size and complexity of the Cthulhu I just sculpted. Black Cat Bases – Thanks for your generous offer. I'll contact you via the email address on your site and see if we can sort something out. Thanks for the inspiration guys. S PS. I know I shouldn't talk about selling stuff on eBay here. I'm transferring some money to the bank account I use for paypal, I'll renew my membership as soon as the money clears. Then I'll make a proper announcement on the Market Place boards, with a link to the auction for anyone interested. |

Sparrowhawk, great job! I am constantly amazed on how different people can take the same bit of information and create a shared vision that is still unique to the artist. Another example of a one off sculpt, also good yet quite different
really interesting the end results of projects like these. picture |
Sparrowhawk | 20 Oct 2009 1:47 a.m. PST |
That is a great looking Cthulhu 28mmMan. The tentacles remind me of curled up millipedes. I love looking at other peoples Cthulhu inspired artwork. Like you I'm always amazed at how different they are, even though they share the same traits and come from a single description. I put this down to HP Lovecraft doing what great horror writers do best, he left things to the imagination of the reader. So his descriptions were suitably ambiguous and contained just the right amount of information to convey the idea of the thing without over explaining it. |

Thanks guys. He is up on eBay with just over two days to go. I renewed my TMP membership yesterday but Bill hasn't changed me from my basic membership yet. So I can't post on the market place at the moment. Here is link for anyone interested. auction I'll be using the money from selling this sculpture to buy rubber and resin for casting a Cthulhu inspired chess set and board that I'm working on. |
