I am building up forces for the 1938 Very British Civil War. I would like to add some army figures in trench coats. I do not know if these could be late WW1 or early WW2 figs. I cannot find either of these in 25mm.

Any suggestions from the members?

Thanks

Harrumph! They're thin on the ground, much to my Norway-April-1940 annoyance. Renegade makes an Early War cold weather pack, which I have not seen in the flesh: link

Great War has a cold weather gear pack too, with 4 out of 6 figures in greatcoat: link

The WWI overcoat -- single-breasted -- is the one you probably want. I've seen pictures of early WWII troops still in the WWI greatcoat. The WWII model, called the P-40, is double-breasted. To my fury, a now out of business minis company produced British troops in the '37 web gear and the P-40 greatcoat.

Figures in the ww1 greatcoat would be good for civies as well, those things lasted.

Cannonfodder might have some suitable figures in their Irish Wars range.

Tiger Miniatures carries now the exHLBS range with British/canadians in winter gear.

They should be suitable straight or with some head swaps with helmeted heads.

Cannon Fodder had a great British soldier in greatcoat but I don't think you can get him as a single anymore.

The Cannonfodder ones are currently not in production IIRC. You could contact Greg Blake and see if he has any in stock. I have about 60 + I would ideally like to sell, both painted and unpainted but I suspect the postage would be a killer.

Thanks much for the excellent help.

I do like that CannonFodder Brit in trench coat. I have _one_ which I bought at a time I was doing IWI and planed to use WW1 brits in hand. I was looking at him, alone among the Tans last night.

Thanks for the Tiger link but no pictures.

Jeff, good advice on Great War and Renegade. Do I buy a GW pack with 1/3 not suitable? I asked Renegade for a picture. Those figs are on the chunky side.

Jim Jones If I knew how to send an email I would ask what you want for 15 of your Brits, painted. Also where are you so I can estimate the postage. Please contact me

Your best bet are probably late WW1 figs in greatcoats. (some) Troops were still wearing puttees right up to WW2, and if your Very English Civil War was in 1936, they don't have 37 pattern webbing yet….

The Tiger/HLBS minis are wearing the much-maligned Shackleton boot, and so, to my mind, are not quite "the thing" for the project under discussion. They *are* wonderful figures, and I have a bunch of them: 1908 web gear, WWI greatcoat, fur hats, heavy gloves, Lee-Enfields and Lewis guns. They're on the large side, and have thick bases as well.

The suitability of the GWM figures is open to discussion: troops the Very English Civil War *might* wear jerkins, I suppose. If you get a pic from Renegade, please share.

And BTW, and completely OT: Thanks for recommending _The Kindly Ones_, Bob -- it's impossible to put down.

Jeff, thanks much for finding the Tiger/HLBS figs. They are quite winterized, too much for England, even the north. Especially if I bring in some short clad middle east troops.

I am looking for figs with out gas mask respirators too. Some of the great war minis have those. Also, what is that umbrella like helment on the two GWM on the far left? I have not seen those in post-war pictures. If I could just get a pack of the one on the far right.

The Kindly Ones, can I ever play the nazi side in a WW2 game again? I listened to it on disk, so got to hear all the SS ranks pronounced, endlessly. A great book, wonderful mix of war, crime, and sex.

Greetings,

We (Blaze Away Miniatures and Models) are in the process of taking over the CFM ranges and are shaking out what we have and so on. Virtually all CFM ranges will be back in production; I just had a look at the moulds and found the figure mentioned;

Quite happy to knock some up this week if anyone is interested. Bob, drop me a PM if you like.

cheers
Jon.
