Besides a Zardoz picture, of course. To me, the most annoying one is the "I am too intelligent to like the things you like" reply. This takes several forms: 1) I don't watch that show. It is too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. 2) I don't play that particular game. (Flames of War, etc.) It is too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. 3) I don't like that type of game. (IGOUGO, etc.) It is too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. 4) I don't play that genre of game. (Scifi, fantasy, hiistorical, RPG, etc.) It is too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. 5) I don't eat that breakfast cereal. It is too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. 6) I don't drink that beer. It is too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. (Oh, wait. That one is legitimate
) The absolute worst of this type is when the original poster asks for advice, and the annoyer feels compelled to drop in tell him what a fool he is for enjoying that particular show, or game, or doughnut. |

Replies which clearly haven't read the OP. Q. 'Can anyone recommend 28mm figures for the war of Jenkins Ear?' A. 'You want 6mm Baccus Assyrians'. Ignoring all the posts in between is OK though, because I do that. Other peoples posts are too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. |

okay, as long we can look at zardoz, drink cheap beer, and eat doughnuts I'm in
How 'bout: Posts that decry the existence of another post for being off-topic or in any other way not meeting whatever standards are held by said offended poster. It's a (semi-)public forum --that means anything (that Bill allows) goes, and you don't get to do anything about what others get to see and/or present. Hit the you-know-what button if you'd rather see grey than red, or go listen to another radio station that doesn't play songs you don't like to hear, or discuss a topic via private mail/message. No one is chained to a monitor being forced to read the OFM's postings --though that would make for an interesting Clockwork-Orange-ish DHing, wouldn't it
hmmm, must retire to my secret laboratory for some experiments ( -it's also where I keep the cheap beer
). ps- thanks, John for opening the silly window
I needed to vent a bit for no reason

People with lame comments such as "popcorn", after the 10,000th time it wasn't funny or clever anymore. Post highjackers, specially those that think turning what might have been an interesting and informative thread into a running joke for their own amusement make them clever. |

Post highjackers, specially those that think turning what might have been an interesting and informative thread into a running joke for their own amusement make them clever. I agree that's irritating when this happens to one's topic when one is looking for important information. On the other hand, a sense of humour makes the human condition that much more gentle and bearable

Someone who takes offense at someone else's choice of words (not what he said, but how he said it) and jumps all over him, launching either a defense/ attack cycle or dueling apologies. Either way, the thread dies. |

D6Junkie has my pet hate dead on. I want to know about a certain ruleset or brand of figures or type of paint, yet there are always people who think that what you have asked is far less important than what they want to talk about. |

Whatever.
Hey! That's my line. But, in response to the question, I hate the "switch scales" or "switch companies" or in essence "do something else" responses to a "how to" question. Such as
"How to I pin that damn Doctor Who Dinosaur miniature together?" response
"Buy plastic dinosaurs from Toys R Us." |

Kelly Armstrong | 13 Oct 2009 11:27 a.m. PST |
well, that's not very complementary commnet about politics. "Anything" includes an infinite amount of unsavory and perverted topics and surely you would not expect that of your politicians. As a potential future US President, I object. Oh, I don't like responses that change the topic from the OP. |
aecurtis | 13 Oct 2009 11:33 a.m. PST |
I don't read threads like this. They are too low brow for one of my sophistication and class. You should have looked in the archives first; you'd have found a number of similar threads. And you really should be more concerned with better topics. Try "What is the most annoying thread topic?" instead. But I no longer expect people of John's political persuasion to be able to focus on the important issues. Vegas, baby! Allen |

Wellspring | 13 Oct 2009 12:12 p.m. PST |
aecurtis wins. I'd add the guy who tries to bulldoze his way through a thread. Hint: if more than 50% of the replies in a thread are you, and if each is more than 10 paragraphs long, then you're probably failing at forums. |
Ditto Tango 2 1 | 13 Oct 2009 1:32 p.m. PST |
Sorry, Connard
You'll learn in the future, I hope, to copy and paste comments of direct import to your own comments! Some Thread highjackers that transform the thread into something vitriolic. I was really ticked off when I was trying to get a topic on representing radios in wwii games = got a couple of good replies and then some goof started going on and on about how bad games were that didn't allow you complete and utter control because trained soldiers apparently all know what to do
everyone, me included, piled on

BravoX | 13 Oct 2009 1:37 p.m. PST |
The most annoying are those that just have to inform you that 28mm is not a scale rather than answer the question. Mind you whiney old farts complaining about people complaining run a close second. |
Griefbringer | 13 Oct 2009 1:37 p.m. PST |
