Its about a third of the way down with the tag line:

Some oldies getting some life put into them , things to come later in the year.

Eli Arndt08 Oct 2009 9:42 a.m. PST

That's cool to see. I've always loved the styling on the TOG vessels from that line.

daledavis6708 Oct 2009 10:18 a.m. PST

Can't wait to see what else they do. There weren't that many ships ever published for the game even including the capitol ship supplement they put out.

Farstar08 Oct 2009 10:31 a.m. PST

There was a brief attempt to do resin ships, but at 10" long and quite a bit of cash each, they didn't catch on.

jpattern208 Oct 2009 12:10 p.m. PST

Those pics are from April 2007, and the Leviathan ships are no longer in his "Workbench" page: link

Were they ever completed and released? Farstar, were these the 10" models you're talking about?

Farstar08 Oct 2009 12:19 p.m. PST

The attempt I recall was when Crunchy Frog/Nightshift was licensing RL. Years ago.

Just got a reply from Chris.

Hi Dale , well i have two models done , but only in the master stage , no molds or production. at this point i have no plans to do more this year. most likely it will be mid to late next year.

Just trying to revive this thread and see if there is still interest out there. I have been hard at work building basic CAD representations of many of the RL ships. The STL and OBJ files are hung on thingiverse.com with keyword: Leviathan. I have 3D printed off almost all of them and so far am delighted with the results. I would appreciate feedback and/or assistance in this non-profit venture to build long awaited miniatures for play with RL: Leviathan. You can contact me direct sfsct3172-at-gmail-dot-com

emckinney26 Aug 2015 7:42 p.m. PST

Nice work there! How big do they come out printed?

SFSCTsik26 Aug 2015 7:49 p.m. PST

So I originally scaled them to be game scale: DD 1", FFG 2", CA 3" and BB 4". But for detail and general printing on my printer I up-scaled them about .2 to .4" each. I posted a size comparison picture on BGG: link

MacrossMartin27 Aug 2015 5:32 a.m. PST

That is encouraging to see, SFSCTsik. I've had a crack at modelling a couple of Leviathan ships in 3D, with so-so results, but no prints yet. You're to be commended for your efforts, and I'll be following with interest.

Still think the Shiva can be done with a model plane kit, using an external fuel tank and a couple of sections of fin… ;->=

However, to have a whole, balanced fleet… *sigh*

SFSCTsik27 Aug 2015 2:25 p.m. PST

If you spot me the money for filament, and come up with your ship list I would be willing to print for anyone who wants some ships. Still working out the filament requirements, but for .5 lbs of filament you should be able to get full basic playable fleets on both sides. Filament runs about 15-25 USD. Shoot me an email if you are interested.

SFSCTsik02 Sep 2015 11:13 p.m. PST

More ships completed. All TOG BBs and RL CAs complete. Check them out at: link

I have pics up for size comparison on almost all the ships and their types. Any and all feedback welcome.

Fire up the VCLA. Incoming…

Soldat05 Sep 2015 6:28 p.m. PST

I'm interested in picking up a fleet. I always liked the look of these ships.

SFSCTsik07 Sep 2015 3:27 a.m. PST

Can do. Email me.

billclo07 Sep 2015 7:14 a.m. PST

Interesting. Any plans on detailing the models a little more? They seem kind of plain.

That Kondrake CL in particular is calling to me. :)

SFSCTsik07 Sep 2015 3:30 p.m. PST

True, the older models are very plain, because I had just started figuring out the CAD program. Some of the later ones are better. The issue with detailing is that at game scale the 3D printed versions lose a lot of the detail and the models come out kind of crappy. I am experimenting with different materials, sizes and alignments in the printing process. The goal was to make ships for gaming, not accurate detailed miniatures. If the scale is increased in size, more detail would be possible to a degree. I posted the OBJ and STL files on Thingiverse and welcome anyone who wants to modify/ enhance the CAD models. I just want to finish the listing of ships from the Lev Capital Ship Briefing first and will eventually go back and update some of the older/plainer models, but my goal was 3D print-ability, not detail at this point. Detail can come from painting and even decals if necessary.

Hombre16 Sep 2015 9:41 p.m. PST

I believe that you're using the wrong 3d printer platform. A super hi-res printer will make the details look really nice. A hot glue printer will look bad for minis no matter what.

SFSCTsik17 Sep 2015 1:54 a.m. PST

What do you recommend? I have a MakerBot Mini and will get a M3D soon. Thats about all I can afford printer wise. Sending in the models to Shapeways seems really expensive and I don't have other printer options near me. So adding detail would be great, but I am a one man show. I want to get all the ships done first and then add detail as necessary. But I would love for anyone to hop onto models already fleshed out and add detail. I will send the STL or OBJ files to you direct. If there are skilled people out there to add the detail let me know. Once modified, I would be happy to hang the updates on Thingverse as well so people can choose if they want plain or detailed. I have almost all the TOG ships printed in red right now and I will post some pictures soon on Thingiverse, BGG and RenLeg Yahoo Group.

Lion in the Stars17 Sep 2015 7:25 a.m. PST

I'd save up for a Form1 or a B9 Creator, with preference to the B9C.

*I* need to learn a CAD program to start cranking out spaceships. I've been meaning to build the Jovian Chronicles "Macleod Program" modular ships, or something like them.

Hombre17 Sep 2015 9:02 a.m. PST

Any printer will have pros and cons. Resolution is important to me because I want my minis to be smooth, crisp and detailed. I have a B9C, though it has a smaller build envelope. Unfortunately I'm too lazy to actually use it, so it just sits there.

SFSCTsik01 Oct 2015 4:27 a.m. PST

I have updated some of the ships and added some detail. I also adjusted size for a little bit better playability. I would be very interested in seeing if you guys would print out these files on your nice printers for comparison. I am now using a MakerBot Mini and a M3D and both have pros and cons, but I think the end result although not as clean as I would like is decent. Not sure how my models come out on nicer setups. I will definitely be looking at JC ships/gears in the future along with other things to supplement my JC and Heavy Gear collections as well.

Hombre, given that SFSCTsik is using two already, maybe he can borrow yours… ;->=

Thanks for staying fired up, SFSCTsik. It's a pleasure to see your enthusiasm!

Doug

Hombre06 Oct 2015 11:11 p.m. PST

I might be down with that. I'm probably just going to sell it.

SFSCTsik07 Oct 2015 5:00 a.m. PST

No way I could afford one of those, even if it was used and with a big mark down.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP07 Oct 2015 5:24 a.m. PST

No way I could afford one of those…

;->= I see what you mean; I've actually never spent that much on a car.

Good luck, Hombre! Sounds like a machine that SOMEONE should be getting used. Who knows? Maybe you'll get sudden inspiration and do so yourself.

All about do as I say, not as I do, mind you…

I am pondering a Formlabs 2. The Kondracke was the basis for a roleplaying campaign I was working on. That ship is made for basing an RPG campaign on. I will keep watching out for miniatures.

Mad Mecha Guy01 Dec 2016 12:42 p.m. PST

From a small Kra'ak infantry gauss cannon I got printed using a formlabs 2, it is a very good printer. For best detail you will need to use the black resin.

stumer01 Dec 2016 3:22 p.m. PST

SFSC Tsic, those are some nice ships that you drew, but if you could add some more details to them I might be willing to negotiate with you for the casting rights. MacrossMartin also shares your enthusiasm for these ships, and might also throw in for a few designs that haven't been done yet.

However, the major hurdle for me would be to know if these would be worth making for folks to justify all of the costs to produce them. If there is only a handful of interested people, and lacking any rule set for them (or stats to other existing rules), is this a viable idea..?

TheStarRanger02 Dec 2016 9:01 a.m. PST

There are people interested in ships from Renegade Legion Leviathans and still interested in that game. Check out the yahoo group 'renleg' for some current fans, some were working on a 3rd edition of the game. Also Ravenstar at one point was working on minis for some of the ships and you can see some sculpts in the background of pictures he has posted on his blog.

Drew, I've sent a PM to him, as his last post on this thread was over a year ago. At the time I was also interested, but 'moral support' only goes so far, to my shame…

Good point, Dean, but, as the OP is from 2009, I think folks have to go to the archives to have a look, and the way Chris's piccies format over the list, I had to do it in 'steps' in Firefox and Edge.

emckinney02 Dec 2016 3:49 p.m. PST

He's logged in recently on BGG, so you should Geek Mail him there and/or post in the 3D printed RL ships thread. He answered there in May. He's also on the FB RL group, apparently.

Ships are still up on Thingiverse.

SFSCTsik04 Dec 2016 5:52 a.m. PST

Beast,

Thanks got your PM. Wow, this is from a while ago.

Stumer et al,

So, I kinda got side tracked and still haven't finished the rest of ships. I was looking for people with more CAD skills to help me flesh these out some. Adding details was a goal, but my printer gets weird when I go too small. So I upped the size of the models and they are pretty big now. Casting sounds interesting. I would recommend we talk on BGG (sfsct3172). I can start a new thread. I only randomly skim through TMP, but BGG has better notification and comms I think. Don't get me wrong TMP, lots of love! Also, got lots of pics here too: wargamer3172.blogspot.kr You can see that the printer makes fine detail difficult.
