I am just finishing up my first Celtic 28mm chariot (metal) and based it on a metal base using zap-a-gap glue -- FoG dimensions.

Well, this is one serious piece of lead, metal and paint!

I'm thinking maybe I've made a mistake. I can just see the horses getting bent inward, riders plucked from the chariot or the chariot being detached from the base with 'normal' use.

Knowing what I know now, I'm wondering if I should have based it on 3/8" or 1/4" plywood (which would allow one to grasp the base rather than the figs.

What do you guys do?

What are FoG dimensions for a chariot?

I use the 80x60 wooden stands offered by Renaissance Ink. Of course for my Persian Scythed Chariots, I have to add another 40x60 behind it making it 60x120 to accomodate the depth. The wooden bases really give it a good sturdy base to hold all that weight…

I would definitely want to handle it by the base.

I have a large number of chariots based on a variety of materials. It is possible to handle the thin metal bases without touching the models. Also, I don't know about the models you used, but many chariot horse models are pretty tough hombres that will take quite a bit of abuse without bending. Bottom line is I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a particular problem.

I use the plastic chariot bases that GW makes. I buy them from a couple of bitz stores on ebay. Works fine, lasts a long time…….
