With DLD out of production who can I turn to for 25/28mm Dropships?

I am familiar with Old Crow but am planning to use both of those for 1 race so I am looking for another ship for my enemy race.

Thanks for any input. Couldnt find anything in da old posts!

I thought we covered this one a couple of weeks ago…I'm sure there was another 28mm dropship thread that would be worth looking for.

That said:

Old Crow.
Scotia Grendel.
Games Workshop/Forgeworld.
Wizkids (Battletech dropships)

Ebbles (paper models)

Various toy lines:
Thunderbirds (TB2 would make a good dropship)
G.I.Joe
Avatar movie products (in the process of being released)

That's about all I can think of ATM.

What's up with DLD?

Brandlin – I knew those mouthwash bottles would make a good dropship. Nice work so far.

Here is a dropship that I kitbashed from a Star Wars Trade Fed tank and an A-10 model. It works equally well as an infantry dropship in 28mm or a vehicle lander in 15mm. The figs in the pic are a GW Cadian for the 28mm, and a GZG New Israeli trooper and DLD Komodo APC for the 15mm.

J98,

Looks good. What did you use for the landing gear?

DLD has been out of business since about 2006/7 as far as I know. Too bad. Nice stuff.

Kit bashes look good. May have to go that route.

I like the GZG T.I.T. But all of there 25mm appears to be on hold for the near future.

Incredible work, Javelin! Some people just have an amazing knack for being able to look at disparate things and see exactly how they could fit together with other unrelated things and come up with a cohesive whole. I envy your ability.

Uesugi-sama,

I was at the Dallas Market Center two days ago, clandestinely sneakin' around the Toy Fair booths. Revell had the new snap-fit kit of the Republic Gunship on display. It comes with 1/72 scale clone troopers as crew and passengers, working ball mount guns, and sliding side access doors. Worth a look IMHO. evil grin

@BWP – 1/72nd scale? I saw it on various sites but there weren't any details about scale…1/72nd scale sounds great to me!

I was worried that the doors wouldn't be movable (the pix I've seen were just CGI mock-ups with the sides all closed up)…you've just made my day!

BlackWidowPilot Fezian08 Oct 2009 8:00 p.m. PST

Insomniac,

I didn't have a ruler, but the standing clone trooper passengers looked circa 1 inch tall, rendering them 1/72 scale if they're meant to be six feet tall. The doors indeed were in the open position, and the troopers even had their commuter train grab handles to hold on to.evil grin

Even if the model is closer to 1/76 scale, IMHO it is modifiable, and there's enough wiggle room in the cargo/passenger bay to work with for 1/72 scale figures.

Looks like my Starguard troopers will have a ship-to-shore ride at last, worthy of making insertion into a hot LZ… evil grin

Cheers!

I was hoping that a small amount of modification would make it suitable for Grymn (28mm scale Space Dwarfs). I will most likely buy one just to find out (I like the craft anyway so it wouldn't be too much of a problem to build it as is).

I am so stoked by what you have said!
