Here's what our state is doing
pacivilwar150.com For those TMPers that live in Pennsylvania, the committee is looking for materials that can be shared on the website. Please post any similar initiatives / websites from other states as the 150th anniversary draws near in 2011. Thanks! Scott |

Very cool
there are a bunch of 150th Reenactments in the planning process also
150thcivilwarevents.com And so far the unoffical count estimation for 150th Gettysburg will be approx 50K reenactors and 500,000 PLUS spectators
it's gonna be a cattle crawl! |

Scott, Wouldn't the 150th Gettysburg occur in 2013? I hope so, because that's when I'm planning my reenacting trip up to Gettysburg. David G. Florida Union Reenactor 97th PA, Co. A. |

The official 150th anniversary of the Civil War begins in 2011, as does Pennsylvania's formal events. The Battle of Gettysburg of course indeed will be in 2013. The state is commemorating its role from the beginning of the war, not just the pivotal battle fought on Keystone soil. |

Scott, Most of the fellows I reenact with are planning on using the 150th series as the last hurrah. Afterward, we're planning on selling off the gear, and starting up a recreated GAR/UCV group. Start touring the battlefields as veterans, in a couple horse-drawn buggies, and complaining about the monuments being in the wrong places, etc.. |

To add to the 150th fun it looks like we are getting a big budget movie from Universal pictures, "The Free State of Jones", in 2012. Interesting story of a poor rebel conscript and crack backwoods marksman, Newton Knight, who gets fed up after witnessing the debacles at Corinth and Vicksburg. He quits the war and goes home (similar to Cold Mountain, but a true story) and raises a company of Partisans. He then declares his County a free state loyal to the Union, marries a slave woman named Rachel, and dares the Rebels and later the Klan to come get him. |
