We managed to squeeze a Poland '39 game in last week. I used the Toofatladies' I Ain't Been Shot Mum rules and my minis and terrain. It was a last minute setup, so the scenario was a lot looser historically than normal and was based on the action around Seroczyn on about Sept 12 1939. I wanted something that allowed us to use a few different armored car types and would allow for a gradual buildup of equal forces but in a random way. Link to my flickr site: link Cheers, Mark |

BEAUTIFUL game and layout, Microbiggie! Those look like GHQ Models's products. Any chance you have some PZL P.11c's in your miniature arsenal, by chance? Thank you very much for sharing your pics, Microbiggie! |

Holy Smokes! What a beautiful terrain setup. You've really achieved a credible density of terrain. I can almost smell the fumes from the vehicle engines as I watched the battle unfold. I would kill to put together a battlefield that looked like that (don't worry, I wouldn't kill YOU). Are the roads done in chalk, or paint? Jim |

Absolutely fantastic! The smaller thumbnails make them actually like aerial recon photos! The terrain is simply breathtaking, and I believe it's hands-down the best I've ever seen. Could you share some tips on how you created it? I'm with Jim in the sentiment that I'll positively KILL to have a battlefield like that. |

Yes, very nice indeed. The great thing abut using 6mm with IABSM is that you've pretty well got a 1:1 relationship between figure scale and ground scale, so you can set the terrain up at a realistic density as well. |

Thanks for the comments, guys. If you click on the individual pictures instead of doing a slideshow, you'll get a commentary on the game. This will also sometimes have notes about the figures' manufacturers. The roads and stream and other markings on the sheet are done with chalk pastels. Much more versatile and cheaper than other methods. After the game just throw the sheet in the washer and most of the pastels will wash out. Mark |

Great game – good advice about the sheet, would not have thought to do that |

Why does your chalk pastel look like roads, and mine looks like
chalk? Your technique is simply wonderful. Last question
what is the base color of the sheet you use here? Jim |
| Microbiggie | 05 Oct 2009 8:02 a.m. PST |
The base color is an olive green-ish shade that comes about form being used for a decade or so. I generally respray the sheets somewhat to cover up the pastels lines that do not come out after a wssh. I have a brown-ish sheet and a white-ish one also. For the paint I use the cheapest spray cans at the local Home Depot/Lowe's/Ace store. I probably spend more on the pastels than spary paint. The soft oily ones are best for blending. Mark |

Wow. I have to practice my technique, and maybe start using the oily rather than the dry pastels I've been using. THanks for the tips. Jim |

As the others say – really really nice!!!! Interesting technique with the pastels. How do you get the sheet to sit flat – you seem to have some kind of material under the sheet. Some "making of" photos of the terrain would be really good. |

Fred12df I actually did a few pics of setting up a table a while back for a France '40 game. I just use various old styrofoam sheets shapes under the groundsheet. link The actual game report link |

Amazing. People should chack out all of Mark's photo sets; link They are simply the best 6mm table tops I've seen in 20+ years of gaming. |

Why is this thread showing up as in SF Discussion? Why is your question showing up in WW2 battle reports? |

Cheers – those extra photos really explain how it all goes together. |

Yes, using pastels is a really good idea. |
