Painting Battle Honour's NKVD Command

We may be sending these WWII Russian figures off to Vancouver for painting, but they'll eventually reach Thailand - because that's where DJD Miniatures conducts operations...

Hi Guys,

I am writing to you on behalf of my re-enacting unit 8th Kompanie GroâDeutschland, in an effort to recruit more members.

We are a World War II Living History Group, predominately based in the Northeast of England, from Sheffield to Newcastle. Our portrayal is of the Heer unit Groâdeutschland, who mainly fought on the Eastern front during World War II.

Our mission is to accurately portray the infantry soldier of the 8th Company who valiantly fought for God, Honour and Fatherland. We are a non-political group dedicated to learning and teaching the life of the typical German soldier.

We strive to be the best, through authenticity and friendliness. I am contacting you now in an effort to try and promote our unit, to get ourselves out there and recognised as the best.

We are always pleased with the positive feedback we receive from the public on our living history displays, and have been praised by veterans on our authenticity and equipment.

If any of you think that this might be of interest to you, as I am a wargamer and a re-enactor, and often these two hobbies go in tandem, please feel free to get in touch with me. We are more than willing to help you with anything we can, and are very friendly. It has come to the end of the main season now, but we do have two winter events, mainly for drill and admin purposes at Eden Camp near Malton, and these would be ideal opportunities for potential new recruits to come along and give it a go.

Many thanks and regards,

Pete Scholey

Saw you chaps at Norfolk Park and was very impressed with the Hanomag you had on the day!

Many thanks mate, that was one of our affiliated groups 1st Kompanie. Sadly we don't have such a fun toy (even if it is a Czech copy :p) but we do get to play on it when it comes to shows :) That in itself is a problem however, as it costs £600.00 GBP to transport to shows :/.
We do however a working motorbike that regularly attends shows, and another one in bits being made up.
We also have a gas-firing MG being made and a fully "firing" 80mm mortar.
many thanks and regards,
Pete

Even if you don't have a Czech OT-810, your unit's kit is impressive!

Peter,
The Northeast of England didn`t have Germany as an occupying power during WW II ?
Do you ever take your re-enacting to mainland Europe ,which was under German control ? Just curious as to any reaction ect.

I goggled 8th Kompanie GroâDeutschland and nothing came up? Is this a fictitious unit? Spelling variations?

Connard Sage07 Oct 2009 9:07 a.m. PST

Spelling variations?

The eszett didn't format peoperly. It's 'Großdeutschland' of course. Or Grossdeutschland if you prefer.

Incidentally, you'd think that anyone dedicated to

would know that 'Grossdeutschland' is a compound word, and that therefore 'Deutschland' doesn't require capitalising. It is, after all, written correctly on all the cuff ribbons. Hey ho, I shall make no further comment.

Would you be interested in talking to some US reenactors. Some friends of mine do GD out here in the states.

Not to be too pedantic, but wouldn't the 8th company be the heavy weapons company of the 2nd battalion? So that instead of re-creating a German squad, you should be re-creating medium machine gun and mortar crews?

Patrice Vittesse Fezian08 Oct 2009 9:20 a.m. PST

Connard Sage:-
Our cuff titles, being an early war portayal, are written in Suttelin script, and archaic language which was revived for use on our cuff-titles, a language which even I as a relatively fluent speaker and my 2 friends who are German, can't read.

Mserafin:-
The 8th Kompanie was a heavy weapons company, and as such we do have medium machine guns and a mortar, we have an 80mm Grw34, and our members own 3 or 4 MG34 or 42s. We have these on a mix of AA and tripod sustained fire mounts.
However as these are not allowed to be fully firing by UK law we operate with rifles on the battlefield so we have something that goes bang for the public :) However we are in the process of getting at least on MG gas-firing so that we can use it.

138SquadronRAF:-
I would be delighted if you could get me in touch with them, it would be very interesting to hear tales of reenacting from the other side of the pond :)

Apologies for the ß not formatting correctly, and also if any of my grammar or spelling is off, I am doing this rather hurriedly.

Any thoughts or comments please dont hesitate to contact me :)

Do you take your "living History displays" to mainland Europe?

Write to me at elliottwjames@comcast.net and I will get you in touch. I think it's a good idea for US and European reenactors to have their units twin as it were like the town twinning

"8th Kompanie"

Wasn't Guy Sajer in 8th Kompanie as well? I'm sure he had '8' scrawled on his hand when he arrived at the front. Maybe it was 9, can't remember now.
