Now that Historicon and Cold Wars are four day conventions, should Fall In also be a four day event? I have always thought that all the HMGS East conventions should run from Thursday to Sunday. Would you support such a move, either as a dealer, GM or player? |

I thought Fall every year was 3 months! :) CC |

No, it is fine the way it is. Four days for Cold Wars or Fall In is too much. |
Bobgnar | 03 Oct 2009 11:41 a.m. PST |
Is Cold Wars 4 days? Thought it was Fri-Sunday. I could go for 4 days, however, as getting there is very costly, so stay longer. All day Thursday would be good. Dealers could still start at noon if that makes life easier for them. |

Cold Wars and Fall In! are three day events and should stay that way. |

No, Friday, Saturday, and half of Sunday is fine. |

C'mon Steve and Scott you know you want 4 days.I would like 4 days for both! |
| peru522000 | 03 Oct 2009 6:01 p.m. PST |
Four days would be more convenient for people who travel a further distance. I drive about 9 hours to get there so staying an extra day would make the trip more worthwhile. I say to make both of them 4 days. If you can't attend the extra day, you can still make it for the other 3 |
HMS Exeter | 03 Oct 2009 7:17 p.m. PST |
I can't say whether it should or not. The vendors will come the extra day if the attendence for the 4th day makes it worth their while. The attendees will come the extra day if the events and vendors make it worth their while. Until the 4th day is proven, coming will be something of a leap of faith. For myself, any day that I can spend at an East Con is a gift. If they hold it (the 4th day,) my dead presidents, and I, will come. |

Sounds like a good idea, especially since that way you are probably more likely to get in a full day of gaming on Sunday. Why not try one-upmanship, and go for a whole week? ;-) |
| Pictors Studio | 04 Oct 2009 5:59 a.m. PST |
Vendors are likely to sell the same amount of stuff in four days as three days, honestly. You might draw more people for four days but I doubt it. If the income is the same in four days as three your profit is less as you are paying an extra day for a hotel and not making any more money. Now if it were extended to an extra day of gaming, I think that would be cool. |
McKinstry | 04 Oct 2009 9:32 a.m. PST |
I think Pictors' idea about extending the gaming to four days but not the Dealers Hall is a good idea. |

Mckinstry Yeah that would be cool.Flea Market for 4 too. That won't fly though, the dealers already cry about the Flea Market. |
| Pictors Studio | 04 Oct 2009 5:30 p.m. PST |
Actually most dealers I know like the flea market, people can get rid of their old crap and spend money in the dealer hall. I think what people complain about is when people break the rules for the flea market. |
Tumbleweed | 04 Oct 2009 5:47 p.m. PST |
I would like to see it lengthened to four days. If you're going to commit to a weekend, make it a good one for the time and money you spend on travel. |
Tumbleweed | 04 Oct 2009 5:49 p.m. PST |
As a gamer, I like the flea market even though I am also a dealer. We're all looking for bargains. |

I don't think the money I've made from selling in the Flea Market has ever made it beyond the dealer hall! |
| fitterpete | 04 Oct 2009 6:15 p.m. PST |
I spend a lot of my Flea Market cash in the dealer hall too.But have your ever noticed that the Flea Market never opens before the dealer hall (or even close to it on the first day) and always closes before it. |
| jimborex | 04 Oct 2009 10:50 p.m. PST |
Thursdays and Sundays are pretty quiet at Historicon; I suspect a fourth day of Fall In would be pretty dead. Jim |

I agree withPictor in that vendors do not sell more in four days than three. Small vendors only have a limited amount of products and are out when they sell them whether on Friday, Thursday or Sat. The sales for an extra day where the extra costs are at least an additional $100 USD means that the vendor must make $400-$500 in sales to cover the extra day. In additon many have other jobs to provide income needed to make ends meet and getting the extra day off is another case of lost wages. based on my daily sales at the Fall In and Cold Wars that I have attended as a vendor, the extra sales are not there. |

Actually most dealers I know like the flea market, people can get rid of their old crap and spend money in the dealer hall. That is EXACTLY the case with me. My flea market table sales finance my drunken sailor binges in the Dealer area. |
| vinsal | 05 Oct 2009 8:55 a.m. PST |
I like the 3 days for vendors, 4 days for gaming idea. That would be cool. |
| historygamer | 05 Oct 2009 10:57 a.m. PST |
Let the market decide. I do not think HMGSE should force dealers to buy the extra day though, as many of them have other jobs, and this just seems like it might put an extra burden on them. Why not run the flea market in the evenings too? It would be an additional draw. Perhaps only start the flea market in the afternoon, and run the second shift after dinner. At least it would be something different. Also, you could easily cut Sunday, as everyone is gone by noon anyway. |
| fitterpete | 05 Oct 2009 2:39 p.m. PST |
I usually do the Flea Market every session.Evenings are when I do pick up games with friends, some of whom are dealers so it's their only time too.Sunday at Cold Wars I did $1,200 USD in the FM by 12.Half of it was 2 painted armies guys had been hedging on for a couple days. But the other half was 2 armies the guys hadn't seen in the other sessions cause of the crowds. |
| civildisobedience | 06 Oct 2009 8:39 p.m. PST |
Definitely yes. Personally, I would probably be there for the extra day at each con, but I don't see too much downside. Even those who couldn't swing an extra day would just get more flexibility in attending whatever days worked best. The only issue I can see at all is, would the dealers make enough extra revenue to cover and extra day's costs? |
| Only My Opinion | 26 Oct 2009 9:14 a.m. PST |
4 Day Cons places extra costs on both Dealers and HMGS 4 Day Cons require volunteers to take extra days off from work, and requires HMGS to spend more on hotel nights. For Dealers: More hotel nights More truck rentals More salary costs More time away from the "real job" or shop with little likelihood of extra revenue. Dealers do not have the option to attend for only 3 days, due to the necessity to set up before attendees arrive, and the prohibition against leaving before close of show As it is Fall-In has to bribe attendees into the Hall on Sunday with a raffle, so why add an extra day? Extra days were added to Cold Wars without discussing with the dealers. This is pure folly in my humble opinion as a former dealer. |

Great idea, as a dealer I'm all for it, 4 days for Cold Wars and Fall In works for me
