Nothing historical

Anytown Northern Italy 1944 Allied and Axis forces duke it out over a hunk of Italian real estate.

I had a couple of goals

1. Have a continuous game going that gave the club something to plan, scheme, and crow over.

2. solitary scenarios have an all or nothing feel to them, people make crazy last turn grabs because losing that squad of infantry to MG fire doesn't have any lasting effect.

3. Keeping track of troops and watching them advance or degrade seems cool & I've never got to do that before.

This is the map, outline, and turn sequence.

Fine concept (and I have US and Germans – including a captured Semovente – for 1944 fighting). Why the need for the alternate history? There was plenty of tough fighting in the real war.

Quadratus02 Oct 2009 3:34 p.m. PST

Alternate history because the map isn't real.

We also allowed any army to enter the fight. Possibilities of French and Russians (maybe that is historically accurate) taking part in the fighting.

I threw "alternate" out there so I didn't get savaged like raw meat by the historians.

I like your ideas. I have been working on something similar with a France 1940 campaign I've been running. All 3 of your ideas are important… the extra fun of planning, keeping the tactics more "real" by discouraging the all-in approach, and advancing your "characters" …

Looks fun. I thought the command points for artie, orders and supplies are good ones. Can they purchase armored support?
Another option for a side is the independent partizans that fought behind enemy lines in Italy. They could look like the Artizan partizans, Soviets, or British miniatures. Or a mix.

They can purchase armored support in the same method. meet or beat the point cost with d10's X 10.

I don't have enough partizan models. . . yet!

Maybe I could make partizan activity an effect

any ideas?

You could have one of the things the Allied side could purchase is a partizan ambush or attack. The Axis side would have to devote troops to deal with the partizan threat drawing off troops from the main battle. Or the partizans could attack supply trucks, roads and bridges on the Axis side so armored support, reinforcements and supplies would not arrive on time or all! You could also have the Axis gain troops from former Italian units (Fascist loyalists). It could balance out the Allied partizan activity advantage. There may be a roll to see if the partizans do what they are ordered to do. They were often Socialists, and Communists and very independent minded groups!
