Gunboat Diplomacy at Uncle Bob's Backwater ~~ (somewhere in Tennessee !!)
By David aaaaaaarrrrgggggh Raybin
Now boys THIS was a game. Chinese pirates attacked by British gunboats in 28mm. A dozen players. A cast of thousands. The Brits were to capture or sink the pirates. Now we know why the Chinese boats were called Junks. They were shot to fish bait. But still a hell of a game. Duncan's naval games are first-rate mate. And yes, the fellow with the silly pirate hat is me. Duncan is wearing the ball cap. Carry on !!!

I don't know how that paddle steamer works.

The paddle wheel housings are so tall that the paddle wheels won't touch the water!!

…I think it's called artistic license, Mike.

Now that is a lot of boats

Great photos = looks like a fun game

Yes, a couple of the boats are made by Richard Houston, but, the bulk of Bob's boat collection is self built. Only about 1/3 of his boats were used. We did once do a Fleet action in a gym on the floor with almost every one of Bob's boats. We had about two dozen people playing and it was also a hoot.

Oh, OK. Then you won't mind me painting my British Colonial troops with yellow uniforms!

So much for historical accuracy…

I have nothing but good things to say about that setup. Fantastic boats and fantastic scenery.

Very nice. Someone put a great deal of work into the navies.

Reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time, The Sand Peebles, with Steve McQueen and Richard Crenna.
