What do you do to make the belts on the outside of a Union coat standout? The blue is so dark that the black cross belts just blend in. What to do? Thanks. |

You can outline them in light gray. |

I use a lighter blue on the coats. As you say, in gaming environments the coats look black anyway
.and my Union troops are the boys in blue, but the boys in black. |

What scale? Like Extra Crispy, I use a slightly lighter blue for their coats – plus, the canteen strap is usually white |

Pretty much what's been said: use lighter blue or hightlight in lighter blue. canteen strap in white. canteen in baby blue or sky blue. highlight straps in grey. one last thing don't forget the brass plates on the chest strap and cartridge box. I use a goldish brown.(helps a little) Mark |

If you dullcoat your figures so the uniform is flat – go back and use a satin clear coat on the leather work and a gloss coat on the forage cap bill. The different textures really do show up and look great. |

Why make them stand out? Dark blue and black merge in the distance and perception makes the difference un-discernable in "real life." Of course, you could paint a gloss finish over the belts after sealing the original paint job which would allow light to reflect off the belts as suggested by sma1941
