Below is a brief review of the Pig Iron "Moving Wardroid" miniature and the "Wardroid expansion pack" as well as a "Kudos" to both Pig Iron Productions and Rattlehead Games.

Having purchased almost the complete line of Pig Iron's "Heavy Infantry" and "Kolony Militia" lines (which I am VERY happy with) for a Near-Future, I decided to beef up the Heavy Infantry troops with some droid support weapons.

I picked and ordered a single "Moving Wardroid" (Code: "WD 2")

from Pig Iron productions to start with. I also picked up the "Wardroid Upgrade Pack" (Code: "WD 3") as well to give me extra weapon options.

Included in the Moving Droid pack is 1 body w/out out head or arms, and 1 sprue which contains: 1 head, 2 arms, a flamer attachment, a heavy machinegun (heavy bolter, etc…) attachment, and a closecombat (power) fist attachment.

The "Upgrade Pack" contains the following:
3 Robot heads, 3 "cyborg" heads, 2 "vice" grip cc claws, 1 standard cc fist, 1 twin-chaingun fist, 1 "flamcannon" arm, 1 "super-heavy laser" fist (could be a double heavy bolter as well), 1 twin-whirling blade "cutter" fist, and one "missile" fist ! Thats a lotta bonus lead!

Both packs have sharp-crisp details and contain very little flash. The figures are easy to remove and will require very little preparation.

Neither set includes "instructions" to assemble but with a minimal number of parts it is fairly straight forward. Pig Iron might benefit from showing an "exploded" picture w/ arrows on their sight to help people having any problems.

Perhaps the only drawback I can find is that a circular base is not included with the basic robot figure and must be purchased separately.

Other than that tiny niggle, I find this a highly useful addition to their Near-Future infantry line. Pictured below you can see the height of the Droid which towers over the Heavy Infantry from the same maker. The Droid will easily fit the bill of a Warhammer 40K/Rogue Trader "Robot" (if they still use them!?) if thats what you are looking for.

With all the left over-weapons options (8 total!) I have from the upgrade pack I plan to get at least 2 more of these bad boys to be able to field a platoon of them for my "Future Polish" infantry.

All in all I give the Droid an "A-" and for the Upgrade Pack" an "A+".

Kudos go out to Pig Iron Productions for another great product! Next up from them I look forward to seeing them expand their "Kolony" Rebel line with Command and special weapons packs.

A second "Kudos" must go out to "Rattlehead Games" in America which is where I purchased the Droid. They stock all of the Pig Iron products on their online store. The store is easy to navigate and they shipped the items quickly and well packaged. Further, they sell all Pig Iron products at a discount! Thats a win-win for me as I plan to collect lots more!

1 thing I forgot to mention is that these have a great potential to be used as "mechs" in 15mm or smaller games. W/out measuring, I would say the Droid checks in somewhere between 35-40mm.

Thanks for the review those look cool

It looks like it would make a good Tau battlesuit or other small to medium-sized mech in 15mm.

Yep. In fact the heads labeled "Cyborg" heads look almost exactly like Tau Battlesuit heads.

Thanks,

Mr Kenshin – thanks for the great review. The upgrade pack has loads of uses for generic weapon bits.
One of the best uses I've seen of the wardroid is to add a plastic ork head and a few orky gubbins and you have alternative cyborks.

Nice of you to notice the web update – it only went live today. Let me know if there are any glitches.

Cheers Simon

I bought two of them back when they first came out – one of each pose. They are a pleasure to build & paint and worth the asking price.

Have not had the opportunity to put them on the table yet, it was one of those impulsive, "cool model," buys… but that'll change shortly.

sorry to resurrect an older topic – i assembled ad painted one last week – I have a good method for tarnished/rusty metal (suits the setting I'll be using these for) and to et it to a good standard took about half an hour.

The add on pack is great too, I'm hoping to have a full tactically equipped squadron – mostly standard guns, one wrecker claw set, sone heavies – for use against my future partisans.

Anyhoo – fantastic models
