Has anyone out there done this with good (or at least acceptable) results?

I am looking at some of the Pendraken 10mm ranges and would like to use them with my exisiting 6mm terrain pieces (mainly Irregular and Timecast) if possible.

I'm eyeballing the French Revolution and Colonial ranges if that helps the analysis.

Thanks,

Christian

This topic has been discussed regularly here. Many gamers use smaller terrain than figures. I use 6mm buildings with 15mm figures. I prefer a village of 6 buildings even if the soldiers tower over them, as compared to a "village" comprised of one hut.

Try it and see how it looks to you.

I'm with Mark. I find buildings of the same scale (unless it is a skirmish game set in an urban environment) look too large.

Thanks,

John

Yes, I use subscale terrain a lot. Like Mark, I also use 15s with 6mm buldings, the Timecast ones in particular are so big that they will probably look like 10mm buildings anyway!

Same here. Like others, I use 6mm buildings with 15mm figures.

A friend of mine runs a fantastic Air Assault on Crete game where he uses 10mm with 6mm. It looks fantastic.

Me too, sometimes. I use both 10mm and 6mm figures for just about all my gaming now. I was hesitant, at first, to use my 6mm scale villages with 10mm troops but they look fine and give a better feel for the space taken up by a group of buildings vs. the troops represented by the minis. Still, I'm in the process of building more 10mm scale terrain. Paper Terrain gives a lot of flexibility.

Yes, I made the decision some time ago and do exactly what you are proposing for my FPW 10mm Pendraken collection. A numbr of the beautiful Timecast 6mm FPW buildings on a common base look just like a village, and go visually very well. Recommended

I think that could work well, I use 15mm buildings for my 28mm ECW

Sorry, I prefer 10mm with 10mm – JR Miniatures and Musket do good mixes. I think the results work well:

Me too, 6mm buildings for the Seven Weeks War. The only exception being bridges as I use genuine 10mm ones, 6mm versions tend to be too narrow for my figures frontages as well as looking too small. The illusion doesn't work with bridges for some reason IMHO.

What about roads? I can't find any decent roads for my 10mm AWI.

At risk of asking a silly question will 10mm Pendraken figures work with 6mm Timecast buildings where one figure equals one man? I am thinking of skirmishes with relatively few figures per side on a small board.

Brett,

Try S&A Scenics scenics.co.uk Click roads.

They do a a sort of country lane muddy surface of some sort of rubberised stuff on felt in three widths.

On the question behind the thread.

Lets assume you have a cubic building which is wargaming figure size x wargaming figure size x wargaming figure size

A 20mm one would have a volume of 8000 mm3
A 15mm one would have a volume of 3375 mm3
A 10mm one would have a volume of 1000 mm3
A 6mm one would have a volume of 216 mm3

In other words the 20mm one is 2.37 times larger than the 15mm one. The 15mm one is 3.375 times larger than the 10mm one which is in turn 4.6 times larger than the 6mm one.

The point I'm trying to make is that volume difference the eye has to cope with is greater between 10mm figures and 6mm buildings than it is between 15mm figures and 10mm buildings and than it is between 20mm figures and 15mm buildings.

If you are saying that both your figures and buildings are representative tokens then it doesn't matter but if you are concerned about the aesthetics of your tabletop then it could well be a different matter.

The scale of matching terrain and castings is only valid in skirmish gaming. In game scale for ground a 15mm building would covers a 100 yards or more for a 15mm tactical or higher level games.

So I do not see a problem for 6mm buildings and 15mm castings.
