How many men did the sdkfz 70, the troop-transport version, normally carry? (i.e. how many was it designed for?) Were they a half-section? or what? 1 LMG per truck, or per two trucks, or what? |

Technically, it is the Kfz 70 version. I believe that the capacity was a "half section" or 6-7 troops. I think the front "passenger" was the sergeant. Presumably, that'd mean an MG34 per truck. Having said that, there are pictures of Protzen stuffed with more troops picture Wyatt |

The Tamiya 1/48th scale kit comes with 8 figures. Two up front and 6 in the back. You can see an image here link Its on my list of kits to build for a demo game as well as I think its will be great for ambushes etc |

Always thought it was a cool design, and have been meaning to get the Tamiya kit, along with a couple other trucks. |

Just had a look on Bayonet Strength, heres the link seems two organisations 1 with 1 LMG and 1 with 2 LMG both had 2 Krupp Protze (SdKfz70) also note there was a Horch SdKfz70 |

Sure looks like 2+6 to me. (2+4 for the pak-towing version, sdkfz 69) Thanks, guys! |
Don Perrin | 23 Sep 2009 10:24 a.m. PST |
The Horsch was the SdKfz70. The Krupp was a Kfz70 (No "Sd"). Thanks Wyatt for that! |

Generally the Germans didn't fill their vehicles up to full capacity in the TO&E, so that if one vehicle broke down the stranded troops wouldn't be left high and dry. Thus, while motorcycle/sidecar combos could hold three men, generally they were organized with two per etc. Of course inequities would arise rather quickly after an actual campaign started. |

I stand corrected both the Horch and the Krupp were Kfz70's. I checked my copy of German military Transport by Milsom which lists them both as Kfz70. |

KFZ 70 is a Manschutz-Kw Protz-Kw (KPW)it could be Krupp L2H-43, L2H-143, or s. Einheits-PKW. Other Krupp chassis include Kfz 68 Radio Antenna Van, Kfz 79 pak Tower,Kfz 81 Flak Tower,Kfz 83 Searchlight tower, The Horch would be KFZ 15 medium personnel carrier m. gl PKW There is no Sdkfz 70, numbering stops at 11 leichte Zugkraftwagen 3t =le Zgkw 3t= and then jumps to 101 Panzerkampfwagen 1 Ausf A und B =PzKpfw 1= |
