My youngest son is interested in Star Wars recently. ("Dad, why am I so interested in Star Wars lately?" "Because you're 9, and it is aimed squarely at you, and your spending money!").

Is it possible to (relatively cheaply) get a force of clone troopers (for his birthday)? I don't know what sets they'd come from, and I don't care whether they are rare or common. I'd want some variety, and to get a reasonable force without overspending.

Can I do it? Recommendations?

thanks
andy

I'd go to a local store that sells the boxes. They might also sell the singles. My buddy just picked up a whole pile of them, I think he got something like 70, for about $1 USD each, some were $2 USD each but the vast majority were $1. USD

A store near you might have something similar.

Try popularcollections.com and other sites that sell singles. Most of them can be had pretty cheaply.

Troll and Toad have a bunch of them in stock. This page is just from the Clone Strike expansion. You can find more in most other expansions.

Dragon Justice . com

They are closing at the end of the month because of hacking problems, but will accept Paypal. I've used them for a couple of years, and they're good people.

Look under their Star Wars section. They've got the whole collection categorized.

Thanks. You have to know which collections to look under, I guess.

They sure are ugly figures. I wonder if I could redirect him.

Most of the items after "Revenge of the Sith" are ok…it's hit and miss on the Clones though. The only ones I've picked up are the Battledroids from "Revenge of the Sith" and "Clone Wars".

Would he like the Starship battles stuff? That would also be a better option.

Well, the Little Prince also is very keen – but, as he is 5, we have focused on Star Wars Lego

Problem is, you got to buy a lot of Lego for a relatively small number of figs

WarWizard22 Sep 2009 10:25 a.m. PST

I have purchased from Troll and Toad before, they are very reliable.

agplumer22 Sep 2009 10:54 a.m. PST

Troll and Toad are very good. You can search by Faction and they also have a section of figure for under $1.00. Just checked and there are 14 types of Clone Troopers available for less than a dollar each.
Thanks,
Andrew

Thanks, I'll look at T&T.

I did find a couple of boxes of Lego with 4 clone troopers in them each, at $8 USD or so at Target. My other son is buying GW bases and some flat Lego 2x2 plates, to let the other one base his Lego figures.

How did you search by faction at Troll and Toad?

I searched for "trooper" in the Star Wars Miniatures section and got a lot. I think I could make a pretty good force out of storm troopers and clone troopers.

Sorry, it is sorted by faction, not search.

I have a fair number of WOTC Star Wars figures I would be willing to part with if your interested in trading or something.

I got a bunch from Troll and Toad. It seemed pretty reasonable.

I wish the jet bikes weren't so expensive, but I think my son will like what he gets.

Unfortunately all the speederbikes are rare figs so their prices are higher. Lesser desired commons and uncommons are going to be your cheaper ones. Most Rares and Very Rares will be much more expensive, although there are some Rare and Very Rare stinkers that go for pennies. At the opposite end Common Stormtroopers go for higher prices because everyone wants them.

So after the load he got for his birthday, my son spent his birthday money on a lot of other stuff. He is mostly going to just play with them, but I think we should be able to talk him into playing Shock Force or something.

He has got:
* A bunch of storm troopers with different poses.
* 3 heavy storm troopers
* a few leaders of one kind or another
* some snowtroopers that we'll call elite or something
* a snowtrooper with a big gun on a tripod
* several scout troopers (I think he needs a few more)
* some kind of flying speeder piloted by two clone troopers (quite close enough to match the rest of the army)
* an AT-ST
* Darth Vader as a leader
* Two non-Imperial figures (some kind of guards in blue robes) as Vader's bodyguard

Too bad the jetbikes are so expensive. I wonder if the micromachine action fleet figures would be close enough? I used to have some, but their jetbikes are now being ridden by Critter Commando Frogs.

Anyway, when he sets out all his figures, I realize this is the army I wanted when I was picking up the odd space marines. I don't like the bolters, or the bikes, or the religious zealotry or any of that. The few marines I've painted were painted like stormtroopers. I've had a model AT-ST for my marines for a long time. His probably cost less, too. :)

The Titanium figures are a close match. They have a speeder bike in that range you can find them cheep at toy store close outs if yo look.

rcbecker130 Mar 2010 6:20 a.m. PST

You can also use the merc bikes as they are mercs, and cheaper.

Templars8318 Apr 2010 10:38 p.m. PST

Anyone know where you get Star Wars episode 1 plastic figures such as the unpainted general Green army men variety? I was thinking of using "cops" from the dollar store for the Palace guard but Gungans and battle droids are not so easy.

This is purely for a board game missing pieces (Queens Gambit) and I have been unable to get the missing parts. So the quality is not that important – thus I don't need the star wars mini CMG figures unless I could get them dirt cheap.

mlnunn19 Apr 2010 2:27 p.m. PST

There was a star wars ep one board game that had Army men sized playing peices of all the main characters as well as a pair of ball launchers of some sort. I had the game but forget the name.
