Miniatures: WRG 7th edition

Boardgame: John Prados' Campaigns of RELee

Computer: Steel Panthers

Hexxenhammer21 Sep 2009 11:06 a.m. PST

D&D in all editions by far. I don't think it would be possible to play more hours of any other game in my lifetime even if I quit right D&D now and started playing another game exclusivly.

For tabletop wargames, probably Warmachine/Hordes.
For boardgames, probably Axis & Allies.

General Quarters 1,2 & 3 for sure for miniatures but Civilization in all its' computer game forms certainly has the most cumulative time by far.

pvernon21 Sep 2009 11:29 a.m. PST

Traveller RPG, M&M / Triplane, Art of War (Larson&Russo)

Dropzonetoe Fezian21 Sep 2009 11:29 a.m. PST

as I got older it changed but a special love for heroquest as before I found out about wargaming I painted all the miniature in the box and it was that game that got me to delve into any board game that had miniature playing peices in it to add to my heroquest games.

Medieval Total War – hands down.

quidveritas21 Sep 2009 12:41 p.m. PST

Total hours?

Probably still Empire II.

Total Games? Probably a toss up between Watch Your Six and Canvas Eagles.

D&D had a good 4-5 year run but . . .

B-17: Queen of the Skies, and variants. Don't need to find an opponent.

AD&D would have to be number one. So much free time when I was young, it will probably have to wait for retirement for me to replace it.

OGRE
Middle Earth Battles (South London Wargamers)
And AD&D by a country mile – I haven't played for, years and years, but when I DID play – well, I'll never have that much free time again so no other game will EVER get a look in !

Son of Liberty21 Sep 2009 2:04 p.m. PST

Boardgames: Avalon Hill's Gettysburg (the one with the square grid) Close second: AH's Waterloo

Computer Games: Red Baron2 and Red Baron 3D

Miniatures Games: Red Sand, Blue Sky gladiatorial rules. (I was the co-designer and developer of the rules.)

AD&D and Battletech, both had long running campigns over 10years or more…Will never get to do all that again, though it was fun

Wargaming probably CD in all its forms apart from the last version

Total hours or number of games – it would be the home-grown set of rules which were originally hand written on computer paper which were a derivation of Empire II and WRG 6th Edition written for ancients and Medievals, and then translated into a computerized version by another author, and modified extensively, but still similar in nature.

As for RPG's – it is now a toss up between D&D and Heavy Gear. We played D&D in high school on weekends lots of times, with lots of hours logged, but we played only on the weekend on some Fridays til midnite, and Saturdays sometimes until 1-2 a.m. Sunday morning starting in the afternoon. Heavy Gear, on the other hand, we played on M-Sat. from 6:00 til midnite every week for six months straight, most of it for the same game/campaign. Great times to remember – but not something you discuss unless two or more members of the group are present.

Board game – Ambush by Victory Games (solitaire WWII – you run an American squad through a series of scenarios – played through all the scenarios several times)

Computer game – Red Baron 2

Miniatures Rules – my homebrew variants of On To Richmond

RPG – ADD Ed. 3.5

Cmde Perry21 Sep 2009 5:15 p.m. PST

Back in the day: AD&D 1st Ed.

This decade, a toss-up: Battalions in Crisis / George Gush Renaissance Rules / Halo Online Demo (yeh, I'm cheap)

Lifetime: Risk

Not sure which in total hours as I think it's very close between Richthofen's War and The Third Reich, both Avalon Hill games. I played these even more than all the day-long D&D sessions.
Nice thread idea, BTW.

ArchiducCharles22 Sep 2009 12:34 p.m. PST

I just realized I didn't gave mine.

Castle Risk would be number one
Then either Realm of Chaos Warbands or RIFTS.

Rudysnelson22 Sep 2009 7:28 p.m. PST

Back in the 1970s at Fort Hood we had a bi-weekly Third Reich game (Avalon Hill)
In the 1980s we played 'Empire in Arms' for months at a time.
Miniatures 'Guard du Corps' Napoleonics (1978-1989).
WRG Ancients 4th & 5th editions But total games may be surpassed by DBA.

Whatisitgood4atwork22 Sep 2009 8:14 p.m. PST

DBA Online. In the couple of years I played it, I clocked up a couple of thousand games IIRC. Certainly more than any on-table game I have ever played.

MotttheHoople23 Sep 2009 3:10 a.m. PST

For what its worth:

Champions RPG
AD&D
Warhammer Fantasy

In terms of genre/period

Fantasy RPG and Wargames
Superhero RPG
Great War (every theatre, every scale, too many rules to mention)

Shaun Travers23 Sep 2009 3:49 a.m. PST

Toss up between Empires of the Middle Ages and Star Fleet Battles (the mid-80's verion). Two different crowds but boardgamers were whom I hung around with. Miniatures would be Tractics closely followed by Armati. I would be lucky to do in a year as much gaming as I did in a week 25 years ago!

Benedict Arnold26 Sep 2009 7:45 a.m. PST

DBA for me. A lot of the rules that I use for other periods or genres are based upon DBA (e.g. DBR, DBN, HotT). Usually happy to try other stuff, though, if it doesn't involve too much re-basing or buying additional figures.

Bismarck27 Sep 2009 4:22 a.m. PST

boardgame…tactics II followed by Battle Cry. miniatures…Chassepot and Needlegun tied for first with TSATF. Over the Top third followed by Fire and Fury.

Timmo uk01 Oct 2009 12:45 p.m. PST

Boardgame

1st WS&IM
2nd Richthofens War

Not played either for 10+ years but would play WS&IM again.

Miniatures
Forlorn Hope 100+ games again not played for 10+ years
2nd Algy

On a first flick through responses I'm not surprised how many Avalon Hill games are listed – been around for years and so easy to set up and play unlike miniatures games.

However, I am surprised how many air combat games are listed given that I thought it was a very niche interest.

The Shadow06 Nov 2009 9:53 p.m. PST

PC – Civilization

BG – Probably Memoir '44 as my neighbor loves it and I can get a game almost any time.

Poker (7 card stud) Even at casinos, when my wife heads for the slots, I head for the Poker tables.
