I want to base some 28mm figures on individual square (for infantry) and rectangular (for cavalry) bases. We are looking at Ancient/Medieval and Napoleonic periods. I can use movement trays for multi-figure units. So may question for you chaps is this. What size of base is most popular and adaptable for a range of rules? |

20mm wide. Then you can make them into 60mm wide elements for DBx/FoG. for light cavalry base them 30mm wide; then you have two to an element. |

I highly recommend round 20mm bases instead of square for infantry. Modern 28mm just don't rank up with spears and shields all over. |

Wish I could offer good advice but I think now matter what you do, it's no win. My ancient Gaul cav is mounted on the warhammer cav bases -- I think these are 25 x 50mm. I use a pair of 6mm rare earth magnets glued into the base. I can then affix them to galvanized metal bases of any size . . . or use then individually. Doesn't get any more flexible than that. Suppose this would work for Napoleonics too. Downside is the cost. Adds 50 cents to $1.00 USD to the cost of each figure. mjc |
