as the topic says, how do you guys play it? Thinking of maybe having a campaign of FT with my friends about the fall of Earth, wondering if anyone has ideas on how they'd go about it? Also, we ever gonna get the FT timeline moved forward, pretty intresting "fluff" methinks

I'm not worried about the KV. I'm worried about what THEY are running from

Hey You18 Sep 2009 7:30 p.m. PST

They might be reeling from encounters with Species 8472. Or Mantrid's drone arms might be destroying everything in KV space.

well in the fb there is mention of sa'vaku thinking the rise of 3 races so close together (phalons, kraks, and humans) might be a joke of the old ones

You might want to take a look at this link
link
which has a series of reports of the Kra'vak invasion of Mars. These mostly appeared on the GZG mailing list as fiction pieces by Beth Fulton. They're not official canon but they are well thought of by list members so they are pretty close. And they may give you some ideas for your campaign.

Bobby – had forgotten about the arms….:-)

Well FT was pretty heavily influenced by B5 methinks. Given that the Sa'vasku didn't want to see either side win (prefering to see them grind each other down in a war of attrition) I always assumed that the Sa'vasku would ride in to the rescue with a Phalon armada as backup (plenty of ways to convince the self serving Phalons that this would be in their best interests).
The Kra'vak psychology never really sat right with me – they seem to be totally mental and warlike for no good reason really.

If you do a google search on "Rot Hafen", you'll find a story written by Carlos Lourenco many years ago. Within said story there is a chapter or two look at the Kra'Vak, from the K'V POV. Doesn't explain everything, but gives you something to start working with in understanding them.

Since when did a warlike power need a good reason to be warlike? As far as the Kra'vak go as I'm concerned they war as a proof of their superiority, just so they can lord it over the inferior life forms.

Covert Walrus19 Sep 2009 4:13 p.m. PST

Right.

The official timeline from FB2 states on Page 47 -

2194: While other battles still rage in many of the colonial systems , the K'V main force arrives at the core (Of Human space). Barnard and the already badly hurt Centaurus are attacked repeatedly by powerful K'V fleets. In May 2193 the first of the K'V attacks on the Earth's outer defences begin. The Siege of Sol has started. . .

Now, from discussions with Jon that I will only partly describe here, the Siege Of Sol lasts for several years, during which time a number of outer colonies defeat the K'V and Phalon – Sometimes with Phalon help, sometimes against Sa'Vasku interference – and make attempts with isolated UNSC units to break back into the Core worlds as a liberating force, but fail to do much. The Outer Rim Coalition decides it represents humanity's only chance of survival being relatively ignored by K'V and S'V and maintaining as good a relataions as is possible with the Phalons and the other spacefaring sentients, and concentrates of the repatriation of isolated colonies and the defeat of raiders.

Now, given the K'V psyche, what happens next has two possible answers; In 2199 or thereabouts, clans start to withdraw their fleets from the Sol area at an increasing rate until, when a combined fleet from Albion and Nova Maskva makes a line-breakign attack . . . they discover no K'V in the Core space any more. Among the general public jubilation that the threat is over, and the confusion as to who the Phalon are siding with, the disturbing question arises; Did the K'V come out of their collective Ro'Kah (Translates as 'Clouded War Mind") suddenly and spontaneously, or have the Sia'Na (Trans:'Walkers Of The Path' or 'Moderators') directed them home by gaining the upper hand . . . Or have the K'V homeworlds come under a threat equal to or greater than humanity in the eyes of the K'V and/or their Sia'Na?

The answer to *that* question, no matter what it is, will make the GZGverse a most dangerous place for a long time to come; Though, fortunately, there have been no 'officially confirmed' sightings of any other sentients in the stellar neighbourhood, so perhaps there is nothing to worry about in the short term.

GarnhamGhast19 Sep 2009 6:07 p.m. PST

Maybe the souls of the dead Kra'vak were being reincarnated as humans? evil grin

joesinafrica19 Sep 2009 6:53 p.m. PST

hmm, pretty intresting Walrus. An equal or greater threat eh, the Ixx Perhaps or the "unknown fleet"?…Really wish gzg had a forum for fluff discussions "background", so I dont have to drudge through the mailing list and here, anyway, lots of ideas, great!

Covert Walrus20 Sep 2009 3:17 a.m. PST

Oh come on, Garnhamghast, that's such a cliche. Next you'll be telling me someone went back in time to become the person they most admire in history . . . Wait.

No wonder Harlan had a heart attack . . . :D

Covert Walrus20 Sep 2009 3:19 a.m. PST

Actually, Joesinafrica, a lot of fluff gets an airing at the GZGpedia if you go there. Admittedly, pretty slow updates recenlty, but it has some interesting ideas.

Robbie720 Oct 2009 12:38 p.m. PST

The overall opinion seems to be that the KrVak will get bounced after a long fight. BUT is there anything more official in the pipeline as to what occurs? I like a background to my fleets.

By the way I spent a fascinating couple of hours reading Beth Fultons articles so thank you Qurchi Bashi for recommending it (and Beth for writing it). Rot Hafen is also a wonderful e novel.

Covert Walrus21 Oct 2009 2:17 a.m. PST

Robbie7, have you not read FB2? The fluff in the rear is as official as it gets . . . though pretty much as you describe.

Beth has also been talking to Jon directly, so I'll ask her what is ahppening there.
