I've just started painting some Minifigs 25mm figures which are listed in the catalogue as Chasseur Charging (FN83)

picture

The figure is modeled with a plumed shako and epaulettes. The uniform sources I have (which are admittedly very limited) all seem to show chasseurs without plumes and with shoulder straps instead of epaulettes. Was there any point at which chasseurs wore the uniform depicted or would I be better off painting the figures as carabiniers or voltiguers?

Thanks

Stephen

This figure, I think, represents an ideal that Legere Regiments aspired to, where their Fusiliers wore green epaulettes, and plumes. The epaulettes were a combination of red and green, problably red "half-moons", and a green fringe. The plume was likely to be red and green.

Nice to see others are still painting and gaming with Minifigs!

Thanks Chouan for the very swift reply. That means I can get on with painting them this afternoon. Would the plume have been more likely to be green tipped with red or the other way around?

Hi Cazador, yes I game with Minifigs (as God intended!).

Either!
Here's an example, although these have the earlier shako with a side plume.

Thanks Chouan,

I guess I'll just try it out and see which I like best. By the way the link to Wikipedia worked fine but for some reason the two picture links don't seem to be working (I just get the hosting site but no image). Don't worry though, I've got enough information to keep painting.

Thanks again for the swift responses. Much appreciated.

Minifigs also paint up easier.

Before the Bardin reforms my understanding is that the legere would all have epaulettes.

Are you going for the voltigeur with Colpack as well? Great figures – very OSW

Chouan, thanks for that first pic of the Chasseurs. I have never before seen a picture with a plume wrapped in a cover, with the top showing. I too have large collection of Napoleonic MiniFigs – Legere with Bearskin Carbinier, Colpack Voltigier, and plumed Chasseurs but I like the firing version

Very Old School indeed, for playing Column Line and Square!

I love Minifigs though sometimes there seemed to be gaps in troop types. However, if you have some old catalogs other figures in the line might be substituted if they didn't make the exact one and you can see that in some of the listings. Prussian guard did not have covered shako so we would cut off the plume. Austrian Cheveaux Leger and Dragoon were same figures painted differently etc.

Hi Marc, I haven't got any of the voltiguers in colpacks but they are on the wish list. I'm just hoping that Caliver keep the whole range in production now they have bought the company.

von Loudon, I was thinking the same thing only this afternoon. I don't think Minifigs do any Saxons so I was wondering which figures I would use for the Gardes du Corps (not that I'm actually intending to build any Saxon units – it's just the kind of thing I find myself thinking about when I should be working)

Although I no longer have any Minifigs 25mm Naps I played with a group that used them exclusively and had over 5,000. These days I tend to think we're lost in a sea of detail to the detriment of actually getting games to the table and Minifigs have a lot to recommend themselves on that front. Although I've now gone down to 15mm were I go for 25mm I'd still give MF a good long look before going for more modern 28mm that just seem to take forever to paint in reasonable numbers.

Of that old collection there were lots of conversions which again MF lend themselves to.

Can only hope Caliver keep the full ranges in production and who knows they might add to them.

I know it's heresy but I'd take Minifigs over Perrys any day of the week.

I'd love to see Caliver start printing old-style Minifigs catalogues again. I don't think the photographs on the website really do the figures justice.
